They were starting at Fradley a month ago. When they were craning the boars in they told me all the way to Fazeley. It will only be spot dredging I expect.

Well, actually broken down but were supposed to be. There's half a dozen barges down there too but they were all empty apart from one with crushed stone hardcore so maybe they were doing towpath and not dreging.

Crt have also done quite a lot of vegetation clearing on the T&M. But not fixed the balance beam at Bagnall lock at Alrewas properly yet but are repairing the landing stage.

I wrote to Damian a while back to volunteer myself for basic maintenance work. I've showed interest in learning how to dredge (I mean how hard can it be!). No answer from CRT even though as a CC'er we're in a good position to help.
Not withstanding, I'm glad their management are still funding something useful.

With regard to dredging, some four weeks back, I made an information request regarding 2016/17 Steady State. Steady State, for those that don't know, is a model that C&RT (and BW) run that predicts what needs to be spent to keep the network in a 'just ok' condition. To expand on that a bit, the model assumes that the network is already in a reasonable state (which C&RT admit is not the case!) and calculates the spend required such that it does not improve or deteriorate. In making the request, I quoted the models output (for England and Wales) from about 10 years ago (figures in Β£millions and my bold) - In a 'you could not make it up' moment, C&RT have refused to provide a 2016/17 figure for dredging because 'the βactual spendβ figures for both dredging and vegetation are available on Page 37 of our 2016/2017 Annual Report at the following link ...'Page 37 gives the actual dredging spend as just Β£6.3m. This is some Β£4.2m less than than the figure given 10 years ago as the amount needed to retain 'Steady State'. (Perhaps not relevant this thread but given for completeness, Steady State vegetation spend was given 10 years ago as Β£11.2m. Actual spend last year was Β£7.9m) Information request link.

Dredging canal just before the A59 at Tarleton when I took the 'party-boat' up there yesterday. seemed to be pulling all the overgrowing reeds n crap from towpath side, across canal and dumping on offside. Cant help thinking they would be better dredging Fearns Farm bridge where it's seriously silted up and a right pain!

Thanks for the invite.π 6 on board, didn't have enough cups!π Walked to Village Inn for lunch, infinitely better than The Cock plus they sell Kronenbourg instead of that trendy overpriced Easten Euro piss water from the Cock! (No hedges were hurt on this trip!)

Β (No hedges were hurt on this trip!) The cock didn't take long to run itself down did it? Shame you missed the good fortnight, I don't expect it'll be repeated. Nicer day today for a trip, I'll have to take my new one down, it needs a proper test but yesterday it would have blown into the bank and stuck there I think. Yours, because it's permanently half sunk probably fares better. π

Convoy would be better, apart from the tiny back deck there's no outside space apart from the roof.
