Sky news is reporting that ISIS could be defeated in months across Syria and Iraq. This will be great news for the thousands of refugees as they will be able to return home and start re building there homes. I'll keep everything crossed for them.

They will be the same as the Tamils, here forever.I was thinking back to when China took back Hong Kong, the price of a British Passport was £1 million in assets so you wouldn't be a burden on Britain. That ended the concept of being British right there for me,in my ignorance I always believed in was beyond monetary terms and here was my Sovereign Government putting a price on it.

I was in Hong Kong for 3 months disposing off equipment assets we sea dumped them with explosives added as they were old and out of date great job and a nice 3 month holiday of sorts

Retaking those areas is going to be brutal on the civilian populations. Civilians Risk Landmines And Snipers To Flee Fallujah As U.S.-Backed Iraqi Fighters Battle ISIS‘Human Catastrophe’ Unfolds As Iraqi Army And ISIS Clash Outside Fallujah
It's not obvious, but those two lines above are links.
There is an interesting twist to what is going on in the ME right now, and that is Erdogan and Turkey. Turkey has been a secular democracy for quite some time, and Erdogan is trying to turn it into an islamic dictatorship. This really sucks for Turkey, and NATO, and the EU, and the Kurds. As part of his delusions of grandeur, Erdogan pictures himself as the true leader of all islam - kind of like an islamic pope. As such, he has proclaimed that there is only one kind of islam and that all muslims are the same. If he could actually get that concept to take hold, it would do away with a lot of the shi'a v sunni violence. What I find ironic about this situation is that Erdogan is the last thing Turkey needs, yet he would probably be the savior of neighboring Iraq if he were there instead of Turkey. Iraq was obviously a lot better off under Saddam than it is now. Iraq has demonstrated that democracy does not work there. History has shown that it takes a strong man to rule Iraq. Imagine if Erdogan were in control of Iraq. He would be as ruthless as necessary to keep order, but, at the same time, he would work to get past the sunni/shi'a divide and he just might be able to get them to coexist in peace if he went about it from the standpoint of issuing a religious edict as a religious authority figure. Unfortunately, he gets his religious authority by being the grand mufti of Istanbul, or caliph of Turkey or some other such nonsense - so I guess a CIA coup installing him as president of Iraq just wouldn't work in the long run, unless maybe he can take his grand mufti title with him. Oh well........

ISIS is only one of the several terrorist or other conflicting groups in the Middle East, although the most high profile and brutal (if we are to believe the media). If they are indeed defeated, no doubt others will step up to the mark. And don't forget Assad is still there.

Is that the Assad that was the lawful ruler of the country until we decided to try to unseat him? ...............and failed!! Which then drove the country to civil war which killed unknown millions and caused millions to flee for their lives..............

He is the one and until the USA and the EU decided to fund the rebel groups was anybody dieing? We cannot impose our ideas of democracy on other nations it has and always will end in death and destruction on a scale beyond our imagination [but not the politicians whose bright idea it was] I have been in to many places where we shouldnt have been and none of has ended well!!
