I am pretty good but occasionally I forget things when "under pressure" talking over the VHF. I did use October once for O. This rude version seems easier to remember osric.com/phonetic/index.php?id=86

so drummed into me that I don't think I could forget it
40 odd years ago if you wished to make a test call on an unlicenced radio or from an area where it was forbidden to transmit and you wanted to be anonymous you used the callsign GTST but instead of the NATO alphabet you used the old British phonetic alphabet George Tare Sugar Tare

Some of the probationers do get a little lost sometimes when phonetically spelling a long name over the radio, but using it everyday soon brings em up to speed. Always nice to hear a bit of "Y Wankee" come over the airwaves now and then.

Grandspawn taught it me while driving along. They learnt it from their dad, who works in car insurance, so needs it for number plates etc. I've saved the pic from Ross's post as an aid memoir for those I forget.

I learnt it for a wireless course I did(xmas pressy from son....I was in a minority)..sometimes it causes surprise whenever I decide to use it....somehow some organisations don't expect a woman to speak phonetics..and some don't get it and u have to resort to ordinary language...there are some real thick folks around

I can recite it when under no pressure, but when trying to spell something out to a client on the phone my mind suddenly can only think of rude or spanish words. I've had to print out a copy and stick it to the wall after saying "P for Pissnuts" to a client.
