Sorry to hear you've lost one of your tweety friends. I must confess though, I have thoroughly enjoyed the repartee this morning As well as the loss of Eric I have to sort out the door on Ray the rayburn, the top firedoor has lost its grip on the stud and popped open last night! It nearly killed Taff and Sid the whole boat stinks of woodsmoke! So this morning its a grinder job and a chimney clean to restore order to the boat and warmth of Joyce That is quite a coincidence !!! on Friday the inner heat shield on the fire door of my Rayburn fell off as well !!! I opened the door to put some more coal in and found I was looking at the back of the heat shield. (Replacing it was a job I have been putting off as the existing one has a crack in it) basically the heads hadf burned/corroded away on the screws. They refused to undo so as a temporary measure I popped the heatshield back on the door and put a blob of weld on each screw head to hold it on ........ it only lasted to yesterday morning !!! I was going to lay a fire ready for when I got back and found it had come off again. I'll have to get a new heatshield and do some engineering to get new fixings early next year !!! Until then I have a poorly Ray

The sympathy and generosity of TB's knows no bounds... I could be available to transport those cats. In a fridge, perhaps?

I would write to Rayburn and complain. Clearly inferior quality.

I would write to Rayburn and complain. Clearly inferior quality. I agree totally ....... things should not wear out/go wrong after only 50 years of use !!! where have those manufacturing standards of old got to !!!

I hope this affliction thats troubling Rayburns is not contagious cos Im not sure my skills extend to welding....though maybe I ought to buy whatever it is u weld with just in case.. As to burying poor Eric in a fancy tin...just think some excited kiddy will dig it up years from now and think it's a time capsule..imagine their faces when crumbly ole bones come out....
