If I see odd items I tend to collect them then take them back to the yot in case they become useful. This was today's find. Part of a vehicle I think. perhaps a door latch? Its quite a heavy duty bit of gear and it has a broken piece of stout stainless wire rope (to the right). Was close to a building site. Or is it something more technical? I put the bank card below it for scale . Anyone know for sure what this fascinating thing is?

It looks like a debit card to me. EDIT Damn, beaten by the edit!ย I did wonder if you might recognise it because it might be from a heavy goods vehicle of some sort. Or there is a chance it is part of an automated spring loaded scrote decapitator. I wouldn't know about this sort of thing.

You may be right and you will be pleased to know that I have already posted the image on TruckNet posing the same question.

I don't recognise it as a generic goods vehicle component although it is obviously industrial in nature and I suspect it has fallen off of some type of specialist trailer such as a livestock transporter.

It was close to a building site in an urban area which has a gated road so probably not a truck full of lambs but I think you are right it has come off a specific type of vehicle. I like being described as a scavenger BTW

It was the stainless wire which piqued my interest. I've taken another photo. The wire appears to have been broken by tension unless someone cut it like a bike thief but the latter seems unlikely.
Pic to follow

I put a bunch of keys for scale this time. For security reasons. I know people can tell a lot about someone from their keys (specially an Assa key!) but its got to be safer than a bank card. I suppose someone could copy the keys and raid my luxury yacht which is berthed in Monaco.

What is really spooky, is that we drove our boat to Halifax today! Co-incidence or the supernatural? Sadly I think its just coincidence. Whenever something happens which appears to be unusual or a match for something else which has happened it turns out that it had exactly the same chance of happening as anything else which may have happened. Once you introduce human brains with "logic" into it there is a natural desire to see patterns and believe that random occurrences are something else. Like if someone you know has a kid born on your sisters birthday or something like that. It seems like something is happening but if the kid had been born on any other day it would have had exactly the same relevance but would not be viewed personally by you as interesting. Of course if the person you knew had been deliberately "trying for a baby" to be born on your sisters birthday then the story could be different. Hth
