Presumably the bots are known to be bots because they admit it. But couldn’t there also be bots in disguise as humans? If not why do so many websites these days have means to eliminate bots from creating accounts etc - the Captcha thing that requires human intelligence? They are intended to stop spam bots from joining and filling up the forum with spam. The bots from the search engines are here collecting other data.

But my point is that such measures to eg stop bots from filling up a forum with spam, wouldn’t be necessary it it was as easy to detect bots as D9 and MrS make out.

What ever Nick, I'll leave you to it. For somebody who is supposed to be clever your a thick cunt. You don't want your forum full of spam, but you do want it to appear on search engines. So you don't want to stop bots from search engines visiting your forum as they are collecting meta data that means your forum will appear on their search engines.

But completely irrelevant to my point.

It is easy to look at the analytics and determine whether the traffic received was organic or not. The captcha is only necessary if you want to stop them before they visit and create spam accounts.
