Hi Kris, just a few questions : 1/ do you use your anchor often ? 2/ have you got a fairly powerful generator to make this motor work ?
3/ don't you think that a cheap petrol driven motor of which there are plenty for sale, and cheap too, would be an easier and more independent solution ?
Saying that, I won't stop you from buying an electric motor, but I wouldn't buy one if it was for me to motorise my anchor-winch.
Peter.

I do plan to use my anchor more often Peter, I have got a powerful generator to power this motor I wouldn't want another petrol engine.

OK fair enough, but I don't think that this winch would be a good one for an anchor as it says in the discription 4.6rpm which is rather slow. If you are single handling your boat and there's a bit of flow where you've anchored, while pulling up the anchor so slow, your boat will start drifting with the flow as soon as the anchor is pulled out, but then it will still be far away from being pulled up completely, and you can't let it just dangle underneath your boat while on the move again, as it may get stuck on something that's close to the bottom of your boat and cause damage. Thinking about the possiblities doesn't cost anything, but if you invest money into something that's not good for the job you want it for, then that's money wasted. Peter.

Your last sentence is very true Peter which is why I posted a link to that motor. Unfortunately I still can't post a photo of my anchor winch but I will at some stage. I think a 240v motor is the way to go for me, I wouldn't want another engine to maintain keep in fuel etc.

Sorry for the delay, had to get rid of a blocked tree first, and then whatever I tried the picture always ended up upside down. I'm sure that someone more clever than I am (shouldn't be too hard to find) will be able to put it up the right way. Peter.

I think electric or hydraulic maybe? Although it would be more hassle running hydraulic pipes .
