What counts as a historic boat? Curious, mine was registered in 1968 and is older than that, possibly an inspection launch. The nub of this question is how you get historic boat discount? If you don't ask you don't get! I am unduly influenced by some stray Yorkshire genes!

Actually it’s an interesting point. It mentions that a major criteria is that it must be 50+ years old. But here we are in 2018, 50 years before that was 1968 when purpose built leisure boats were being constructed. But I bet if you had a 50 year old cruiser or steel / woodentop boat that was built as a leisure boat, they would turn their noses up at it because what they have in mind is some chocolate box representation of a working boat seen through rose tinted specs, not the boats that were actually on the go 50 years ago. TWATS!

I'm not holding my breath but one day I think fibreglass/GRP/FRP boats may become recognised as historic boats.
and there is a chance that in about 30 years time maybe even silly replica Joshers with glued on steel discs all down the side below the gunnels might be allowed to go to historic rallies.
Stranger things have happened

But in 30 years time many more boats that aren't classed historic now probably will be then...they have to be as 'historic' is well 'historic'...its like retro..retro is now stuff from my childhood which i find really weird especially as i see items for sale at silly prices that i consigned to the tip as rubbish..

I suspect one day they will pick a year and it will have to be older than that to prevent more boats being historic.

Having read the pdf, I doubt it would qualify. Only the hull is left, it's had a steel top put on, I removed the original framework and wooden top. Engine was removed before I got her, outboard fitted. But definitely more than 50 years old.
