Ok i am getting there and have found a very good priced HIAB hire company to launch the boat, a 20 foot cruiiser. I am looking to launch by HIAB this April/May time along the Bridgewater From Worsley upto Makerfield. I called Boothstown Marina ( Manchester Worsley ) today with no luck of an answer and tried the hire company there. One lad answered but could not help but suggest Lym for some reason. he gave me another office number , again no luck of an answer. We will be going up to Carnforth so the reason to stay below the Wigan flight, dont fancy that on the first outing, done it once and not to keen to do it again unless need be. So can anyone suggest a spot to launch with a 30 foot wagon by HIAB along that stretch please. Thanks Wayne

Thanks Wayne Long time since I was last there, so things might have changed a lot, but there used to be plenty of room and hard ground where you would be able to get a lorry down between the railway arches, the old, disused top chamber of Hulme Locks, and the road that crossed over the bit of cut that went off towards Castlefields.

Wayne it's a few years since I was round there but on the L&L leigh branch I remember a section in Poolstock just by the first lock on the L&L after the Wigan flight where (then anyway) there was access ........ I had a look on Google and the bit I remember seems to be still there but you would need to do a recce

Patricroft, the main road runs next to the canal. That is where i bought my first boat from, Barton boat club which i think is the stretch you mean , the dreaded Dawncraft Dandy. When i read your post earlier i called them and could`nt get through to them either. Must be something about marinas and yards with me and not getting through. I will try again, not sure if i would be allowed to crane over off public road. I cold pop down and see if there is anything about. Forgot all about that spot Thanks Jim Wayne it's a few years since I was round there but on the L&L leigh branch I remember a section in Poolstock just by the first lock on the L&L after the Wigan flight where (then anyway) there was access ........ What i will do is as you say, have a day mooching the areas. Just a thought to make sure. What are the laws about launching from these areas and not a boat yard? Drop it in and run lol

Patricroft, the main road runs next to the canal. I remeber the yard on the junction of B5211 Barton Rd and Barton Lne B5230 worth a call, althouhg i have never seen anybody there and that was a few years ago i was last around there. See alll the see haubts are coming back to me. And to think they are only maybe 10 miles from me. Not an area i want to remember though. It was a logn time ago but boats needed steel mesh/grates on the windows.
