If you come across a situation while you are out and about do you roll over with your paws in the air and cry, ring cart, or try and sort it yourself, then ring cart or RCR if you can't sort it? Problems from a dead engine, an empty or too full pound, a broken Paddle, or a few leaves and twigs, possibly a big log, in a lock entrance. I have sufficient tools for the engine and most things on the boat, a small keb, a small grapple and rope, a small wire winch and slings, a bike. I enjoy the challenge of giving it a go. It also means I may be long gone before cart could arrive. Another factor of course is the handiness and view from the mooring, if ok I could be a helpless snowflake obvs.

I can deal with anything life throws at me* including massive aircraft accidents, storms, flooding, stiff lock gates and just get on with it.
*other than the woman that is.

I tend to have a go at sorting most things out... mainly cause I hate waiting for other people - I DO however, know my limits and if it'd be dangerous (well more than the usual dispraxic level of gingerness) I'll phone the appropriate department for help. THUS far, we've managed to deal with things on our own on the boat but if something "bigger" than a tyre wedged under a lock gate, fallen tree, lose boat needing securing before it goes over a weir occurs, I'll phone wonder woman or who (whom)? ever.

Go the pub first and have a think about it... In the past I have usually had a go myself (I must be tarred with a hidden ginger streak ..... I hate waiting around for other people to turn up as well) However after having given the question much consideration ........ I think Froggy has the best idea ....... Cheers

Cheers I hate waiting for other people and occasionally when I let the stubble grow there is a hint of a ginger beard there. Or was that grey.

Most waterways issues we've been able to sort out and keep moving.
But I also think it's important (particularly nowadays when daily monitoring and inspections are NOT carried out) to report to C&RT what the problem was, and what you've done about it.
I have occasionally met someone in a pub who describes emptying pounds to fill a pound lower down, on a flight, which effectively just leaves an empty pound higher up for some fool (me) to deal with.
Do what you need to, but at least report what's happened so that there's a chance someone behind isn't going to be stuck.

possibly a big log, in a lock entrance. TellyMackus and Quaysider are probably the best people to advise on this.
