If you think we are on the verge of sorting the problem out then I think you are wrong, if anything we seem to be exacerbating the problem, whilst migrants are a part of the problem they are only part of it. Stopping the homeless sleeping does nothing to help the situation, it's just a classic 'move on we don't like you' response.

But we should be putting less effort into whinging about sprinklers in doorways and more effort in the real problem.

Of course ! and until that real problem has been sorted (within the next couple of hours) sprinklers in doorways is the answer to get rid of these poor buggers, that are far from always drunks, as many "decent" people seem to think. I suspect one of the reasons why people don't talk much about the problem is that it's just so complex so becomes so easy to shoot down ideas.
I'm a big fan of the 'homes first' solution i.e get someone safe and settled whatever 'detritus' they might bring with them, then start trying to sort out the 'detritus', but I know that trying to defend my thoughts would be difficult.

I've helped set up and run a few drop in centres for homeless people. In commercial premises that had been empty for a long while or where awaiting development. The landlords usually could be persuaded to give a rent free perioud or low rent. The negative response from other business's once they found out that it was to do with homelessness was shocking. It's always the same story, not in my backyard.

I saw a report a couple of years back, that central London were looking at building basic shelters (just a bunk) into new buildings, giving somewhere for homeless to get out of the weather.
There was a smart looking artist's impression, and various housing authorities around the country were following with interest.
I've never heard anymore on the subject.
It would not have been any kind of solution, but was a much more humane way of approaching the problem.

I've just received a PM warning me that Rog has been past my mooring today so I'm half-expecting to be sleeping on a park bench tonight.

I think that we all accept that being able to house homeless people is the best case scenario but that ain't happening so until such time we are able to house all the homeless we should at least ensure that the homeless are able to rough sleep in the best possible and comfortable way. I don't think anybody was bleating on, just showing concern Phil

I think homelessness is the scandal of the age in the UK. Colonel Gadaffi was widely condemned as evil but at least in Libya everybody had a home, and if a new one was needed then a new one was built and the whole community pitched in to help build it whereas here the whole community put signs up in their front gardens saying "Save our green fields".
Er, what do you think was there before your house was built Missus?

Homelessness and Unemployment are the tools to keep the Workers SCARED. DON'T DARE ask for a pay rise as they may get rid of you then you will be HOMELESS and UNEMPLOYED with no money. Are there any 'rights' at all in Britain these days, with all the judges being 'on the take' and all the politicians being completely corrupt? It's becoming worse than Zimbabwe. Some judges can be ok, read this, I know it's a long read and you might not agree with everything. www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-42789610

All those empty buildings that the BFG has investigated..why cannot they be used and the people who sleep there help renovate them....

Now you are just being a very silly boy. Nobody is suggesting that we dole out park benches to homeless, that is just ridiculous however because we are unable to house them we can at least do what we can to help them to help themselves. This should mean that they don't have to endure sprinklers in doorways, or spikes or benches fitted with deterrent bars.. Pity more people don't think " there but for the grace of God go I Phil
