Nice people......NOT Phil Not really. Park benches are a public facility to be shared nicely. Whilst I doubt many folk care what happens over night, there will be a problem with people flaked out on a bench in the middle of the day, taking up the whole bench and depriving several other people - eg the old and infirm - of the possibility of a sit down. Providing park benches that people can sleep on is not the way to address the homelessness problem. For that we need to look at the causes and cures, eg having adequate and available affordable housing, support and mental health treatment.

Chris and I are both old and infirm, however if some poor unfortunate were sleeping on a bench we would just pass by to the next bench. It's not about providing benches for the homeless to sleep on it's about modifying existing benches to make them useless as a place to sleep. Phil

Perhaps the council should re consider...I can see both views here.... A compassionate alternative...if adequate housing..even just a room cannot be found then perhaps 50% of the seats could be left....and 50% for those who want to sit .... Most parks I wander in unless scorching hot summers day have loads empty seats...

Phil These poor buggers haven't got much choise to go elsewhere, of course everybody can understand that, and don't see this as a problem, as long as they don't come to sleep on a bench in your own neighbourhood. I think too that people that are only doing a little walk can find another place to sit, but another place to get some sleep is hard to find for these poor one. They would much prefer to sleep in a real bed in a warm place to, just like every other human being. Because of the great lack of refuge places they'll have no-or very little choise. Peter.

Unfortunately, mass homelessness is what is destined to happen when government policy is to increase the population by several million over a relatively short period in the pursuit of cheap labour without the attendant increase in housing required to shelter the population. Equally unfortunately, it's "waycist" to say it.

Equally unfortunately, it's "waycist" to say it. Its not racist to talk about a housing shortage. It is also not racist to talk about immigration nor want to restrict it. It is only racist if, for example, one said "Oh no problem letting in loads of white Western-Europeans, we just don't want any brown ones or ones with funny Russian-sounding accents".

I hope for this shop that the Parisians didn't have paid for a patent on their great sprinkler idea, as they may have to pay a fine for copying without asking. Peter.

I hope that many people will see this video, and listen to this nice womans message, and that with lots of effort from everybody it may still be possible to do something about the problem, instead of only pushing it away to next door. "Out of sight out of mind", isn't a solution. Peter.

Personally I think it is pathetic that you lot are whining on about not being able to sleep in doorways. That is NOT the issue, the issue is that we shouldn't have people in our country who NEED to sleep in doorways. Get a grip!
