Here is a nice example of said lister jp3 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263471438384 I think this is the one advertised in towpath talk for £7500, a bit optomistic in my opinion. Maybe if it was a marine engine complete with gearbox.

Maybe if it was a marine engine complete with gearbox. If this engine is really as good as he says it is, then it's not even all that exagerated, half of the asking price would be better, but I wouldn't be too surpriced if someone go's for it, as there are still plenty of people around with more money than common sence. I'm not jealous, and I'm not in the market for one of these engines anyway. Peter.

It's a pretty specialist market really there aren't that many buyers. I've seen quite a few lister jp's with not many hours on them. But I've not seen any marine jp's that haven't done any work.

That makes sense as a lot of the industrial JP units were for backup purposes like generators so they may never have actually done any work whereas a marine engine would normally be used unless it was a wing engine. I would have thought but I don't know that.
I suppose there may have been some surplus stock of marine units.
One of my boats has an ex admiralty Perkins P4 - apparently they bought excessive numbers and old crated units turn up now and then for sale. Effectively new engines but made in the 50s and 60s. The same may happen for JP units I suppose.

I've seen a few jp's from generating sets that have done less than 40hrs.
