Jolly kind of you. Sadly she is 90, skeletal, and very near death, but whilst she has severe dementia she suffers no underlying medical problems. Her heart is very strong. Medical advice is unable to give us any indication of how long she may last. Distressing to watch, but distressing not to. The weather adds another level of inponderability. Rog Dementia robs a person of their 'self' and its horrible to see the distress this can cause... I have experienced the awfulness of this debilitating illness..my thoughts are with you both....

That's a kind thought, thank you.
It's difficult to know what to do.
A little rain has to fall in every life.

There was no question about anyone being hurt on the bus, only the plonker who zoomed himself into the ditch. Always expect something to be around the bend - I see car drivers' mouths and eyes open in surprise all the time along that road. However, although I like driving along it (it's 7km long, many bends, in the forest) I will say it's daft to send a 13-tonne bus along it when kids could easily walk to the main road (1km).

Rog Well keeping her safe and supported in the bewildered world she must live in is hard work. My elderly neighbour suffered dreadfully from Alzheimers ..I cared for him for as long as I could...eventually a stroke necessitated a move to a home so I recreated his lounge in the place he went to...they kindly let me put his old furniture and pictures in there...for him it became home, untidy tatty but definitely 'him'..a familiar place and he lived another year until an aneurysm ruptured.

We've left the boat on the Ashby whilst we're at home due to Jane's old Mum's ill health. I've been keeping an eye on the forecast, and it's supposed to be very cold tonight (-3 or lower). If anyone is on the Ashby, or in that area, I'd be obliged if they could let me know if the canal is freezing over. Thanks Rog Its a foot thick, boats sinking and floating off all over the place!!! Not really, checked on mine this morning at Marston and no ice, if you want to pm me with where abouts it is, and i can always pop and have a look at the weekend in my car, thats if you are not back on it of course.

Anyone want to write to proboards asking what this is all about? It's a cocked up iFrame tag caused by something advertising related, proboards are already looking into it (but have been doing for a month)

BBC weather says -2 in Halifax, I do hope our water pump hasn't frozen and exploded. We did take the plug-thingy out of the Morco, although I have read it's best to drain it from below - only I daren't open those pipes/fittings as I saw how they went on and they are tight, playing with them could break something. We should really get an electric oil-filled radiator for winters - but does having 240v mains from the shore for a long period dissolve the hull or something? Why would it? The cable goes to a fuse box and then to the 240v circuit inside the boat - surely any Earth/Ground (cable) goes to the box on the shore? When I had my boat I had couple of tiny rads which I plugged into timer set at 5 degrees...not sure how much use they were cos only used them when i was away from the boat

Starting at the water tank, I have an inline tap, then a riser teed off with a tap at the top, clear pipe in the riser with a red kettle floaty bit, this tells me the water level in the tank. Next in line issue the pump. However if I shut the main tap and open the riser I can then run the pump and pump air through the system, pushing the water out of the taps. I also have a jabsco filter before the pump, before I fitted the level indicator riser I unscrewed the lid of the filter to allow air into the system that way. Not had any frozen pipes problems yet.

Too lazy for all that malarkey. I do like the idea of an oil-filled radiator, but ours would be set to +10 Centigrade as I'd want some warmth to percolate downwards - and I'm a believer in Global Warming - yeah, let's warm this planet up, effin' freezing here in northern Finland! May want to do some maths first and work out how much that would cost!

Electricity in the UK is much more expensive than in Finland. You are all being ripped off. Bring some from finishland then.
