We've left the boat on the Ashby whilst we're at home due to Jane's old Mum's ill health.
I've been keeping an eye on the forecast, and it's supposed to be very cold tonight (-3 or lower).
If anyone is on the Ashby, or in that area, I'd be obliged if they could let me know if the canal is freezing over.
Thanks
Rog

I miss my boat and I'm nosey.
I also see no point rushing back to the boat (as I'd like to) if the canal is frozen.
Jane's Mum is very ill, but may be with us for quite a while yet.
I don't wish to take Jane back to the boat to be stationary on a frozen canal, albeit only two and a half hours away. We may as well stay here.
Are you on the Ashby?

I'm nowhere near so can be no help at all, not even remotelty useful in any conceivable way. I think there was someone posting on here recently who was on the Ashby (cue Tony Dunkley's "Moira Cut" correction).
Anyway I wouldn't worry too much about below freezing temps unless it carries on for a few days. Then I would panic.

Jolly kind of you.
Sadly she is 90, skeletal, and very near death, but whilst she has severe dementia she suffers no underlying medical problems.
Her heart is very strong.
Medical advice is unable to give us any indication of how long she may last.
Distressing to watch, but distressing not to.
The weather adds another level of inponderability.

You go off in your caravan.
There are sites around Hinckley area.
You responded to my op.
Seemed an obvious question, sorry.

Minus 17 Centigrade here.
An imbecile in a car came fast towards me on a narrow gravel road this afternoon. I slowed down immediately and got more over to the right. He went past, wiggled around on ice and went nose down into the snow-filled ditch. I saw it happen from the mirror as we had already passed. I thought I'd better go and see if he was OK and was sure he would moan about the bus being too big for such a road and it was my fault - and that was the first thing he said, that I was too much in the middle of the road. Well, the bus rather fills that road. The trick is to SLOW DOWN and even STOP if it's too narrow to go past. I see these cretins almost every day coming round the bends like the Formula 1 drivers they think they are (but aren't). I said if he thinks I am to blame then we had better swap details - but he just muttered the car seemed undamaged and he knew someone nearby with a tractor to pull him out. I wrote to my boss to cover myself in case matey starts whingeing later (I took his registration). I wonder if he had insurance. Perhaps I will have a laugh tomorrow as I go past the gouges where he went in.

It's easier to blame others than accept responsibility yourself.
Glad no one was hurt, especially on the bus.
You ought to get an episode on 'Ice Road Truckers'.
