If I was looking for an engine at the moment Id be very tempted. It looks like a good honest engine.

That surely is indeed a beautiful engine, and as you say a more than reasonable starting price. It will be interesting to see what sort of money it will make in the end, as this low starting price will attract quite a few people I would think. Peter.

Peter. i think the market for vintage engines in boats has changed and their aren't as many people who are interested as there was. But I think this will sell, as you say it will be interesting to see for how much.

It ended at £750 but whether that was a buyer or a cancelled listing due to an offer I don't know. If they are going for less than £1000 I think they are undervalued as these are very high quality durable marine engines. They are not marinised industrial they are marine engines as built. Not much shiny metal and also no clunk-clunk so they don't get so many fans.

this one doesn't look in as good condition as the last one. The auction ran its course on the other one so it sold for £750. Bargain I would have said.

It may not look as good on the outside but I think internally this one may be better and it is an "internal combustion" engine Seems to have had some work done on it according to the text in the ad. "Crankshaft reground New bearings New inner and outer valve springs Has been run after reconditioning"

"Crankshaft reground New bearings New inner and outer valve springs Has been run after reconditioning" the other one had been rebuilt as well. The external condition of an engine can tell you a lot, obviously not what it's like on the inside. But what sort of life it's had. For instance if I'm loking at Honda petrol engines, I look at the exhaust port this will generally tell you if the engine has been worked hard or not.

True and perhaps a bit concerning that the work needed doing anyway - could indicate a generally screwed engine. Fair point.

Or pretty badly been maintained, running with a lack of oil doesn't do much good to a crankshaft either, which would be another reason for a re-grind. Peter.
