It certainly needs it looking at the photos.
But I suspect not, based on observations elsewhere.

What lies beneath. Block paving the bed seems a bit extravagant.
How long are the works scheduled to take?

Thanks.
They need to get Phoenix Paving in, they topped off our roads and paths in no time.
We have a prolonged closure of Titchmarsh Lock, I haven't (to my shame) got any pictures of the works though.

Minworth. Is that where the BNRR toll road is? Or was that Curdworth. I moored there years ago (beside the new motorway) and took the opportunity to take my dog for a walk across the motorway. It was just before it was opened to traffic. Quite a strange feeling to be able to just wander about on such a big road. Its quite an impressive bit of work they did there, for better or for worse. Not ideal for eco-worriers but handy for people in wheeled vehicles.

Is it me or does the third one give the impression they are filling the canal in
I guess that's just supplies to wheel down to the lock

I think the picture with what appears to be a brick road way on the canal bed is worthy of discussion by knowledgeable historians.
I know nothing.

Stopped off at Minworth locks by car to have a look at the repairs (leaky canal bed/embankment). I wonder if they will actually remove some of the crap from the canal bed (aka dredge) when they’ve finished. nice photos, as others have said, if they do the same as other places they won't be removing anything.

In the second photo, the bricks are bank side where you move the lock gates. In the third picture, the “road “ is planks of wood put there temporarily to allow plant to trundle along the canal bed without sinking into feet of slime!
