Personally I think if your intention is to argue or debate from a fixed viewpoint you might as well just type it out once and leave it at that.
If you expect others to be influenced by your posts while steadfastly refusing to be influenced by anyone elses, that's just rude.
It's not necessary to hold a view in order to explore it. Don't shoot the messenger.
Almost always there is nothing to win in a discussion, just a range of different, interesting, legitimate views to consider. Variety is the spice of life and all that.
Mind you I still don't know what I'm going to do when I grow up, and I've retired.
