The recent cold snap has battered my batteries, they are only cheap ebay ones that i think i paid £50 each for spring 2016, will replace now in the spring with same kind of price. Ebay shows these but you need to hand over your old ones, £59.95 each. Or these but i get to take my old ones to the scrap yard myself, £66.40 each. £6.45 more expensive, but what are leisure batteries worth at the scrappy these days? Plus i have to factor in dragging the old ones to the car and driving to the scrap yard... Also been thinking that is worth having three, or should i drop down to something like this, i dont live aboard anymore and we do not really use much power, hair dryer is the biggest draw but i always have the engine running at a decent revs when she uses it and its only every other day when we are out, which is really from spring to autumn, i have a 250w solar panel and tracer Mppt thing.

Not sure how much you get for batteries but an old git pikey nicked a couple of rolls scrap batteries I had by my boat the other day - including carrying them over the fence by the mooring. Neighbour saw him and he was apparently about 70. Two 56kg batteries. I was quite relieved as I could hardly move them !!
So scrap price might be quite high. Years ago I used to take batteries to a battery supplier with a friend. We dragged 600kg of LA batteries to the man and got about £120 or something. The price goes up and down like the assyrian empire.
Normal 110s are about 25kg. If you can find a battery supplier they might do a direct discount against scrap. That's what the one I used to use did (Denka in Croxley near Rickmansworth)

But yes it's worth weighing in old batteries.

50p/kg is what I got too end of last year. Certainly worth the trip but you can't just turn up and grab the cash these days. The scrappy has to pay into a bank account and see proof of address e.g. utilities bill, addressed bank statement.

That's easier, my point was that it's a faff. For me I have zero of the needed documentation so I have to take someone with me who has. I've scrapped about 300kg of batteries recently so the £150 was worth the extra mucking about, but one x 25kg I wouldn't bother. I find it amusing that Halfords charge to take your old battery as if they're doing a favour!

I agree it can be a faff, with some of them you don't get your money for 7days either.

So about £10 per battery, so its a no brainer really...
Just kicked myself, spotted an old battery dumped at the side of the canal on the weekend, should have grabbed it!
Also have the starter to replace, and the old one of mrs car in the garage.
So maybe £40 scrap, plus the £180 for the three new ones, might be best to go with the fancy one?

I got a little over 15 quid each for my old numax 135s... so worth the effort.

.... so worth the effort. Doesn't that depend a bit on how much effort is involved? Sorry back in the box for me.

well in my case it was a 10 min drive into town... a bit of a chat with the scrapper (about his mum who'd had a heart attack - or was it his dad? ) then a 10 min drive back - ergo, worth the effort.
