I have difficulty understanding the idea behind volunteers working for crt. OK so people are happy to do work for nothing because they are financially secure thats understandable. but does this also apply to people in management positions or is it only people on the ground doing the actual work ?
Surely the whole system would work better if everyone was a volunteer from lock winder up to the CEO ? Then if something comes up which nobody knows how to deal with you contract it out.
Is this some sort of scam ?

I don't reckon it is I know it amazes some that Cart is a charity like National Trust etc.(awaits incoming) Quite common to have folks volunteering their time. I'd do more for cart but I spend lots of my time volunteering for Skylight Circus. I've done a few days for Cart, clearing lock sides, painting lock gear, planting rushes on the Summit pound etc. All v enjoyable. There's not a cat in hell's chance of getting management done by volunteers, my wife and I do a lot of higher order management at Skylight Circus, but its a temporary necessity at the moment due to staff retiring due to illness. The turnover there is circa 100k, not sqillions, only 3 staff and freelancers to manage.

I'm a CRT volunteer, I work on my own as a "towpath litter ranger" (they made me a job title and everything!) - figured I did it anyway so organised official recognition with the local volunteer coordinator. I basically do my own thing in my own time, but I get to think I'm a mole on the "inside".
