I've got a villager "puffin" on one of my boats. I've done the rope seal a few times over the years and on a similar stove on a previous boat but I have had varying results with the glues.
having used several different glues some from chandlers and some from eBay I am still not sure which is the best one as it sometimes comes off quite quickly. Or maybe like painting the key is correct preparation.

Or maybe like painting the key is correct preparation. I have a Villager Puffin, the two things with them are firstly that they need 9mm stove rope, I had a fruitless drive around last month looking for some and Rose Narrowboats, Midland Swindlers and Wharf House Chandlers all said "Ooh sorry, we only stock even numbered sizes", and secondly the rebate needs to be cleaned back to bare metal with an angle grinder before installing the new rope. Stove rope adhesive only has a very short shelf life too- from memory 12 months. So check this with the seller before purchasing.

Ta From memory I once bought an 8mm for our morso. After i fitted it the bloody door wouldnt shut. I had enough though to do it again but managed to remove the central core and it was fine and created a nice tight seal.

There was a post on FB only this morning re: rope replacement on a Morsostove. He used 8mm and ended cracking his glass, pictured below.
General consensus was, as Martin said, remove centre core, use ‘soft’ rope? and use silicon not glue?
