I drove past one yesterday and saw the big sale signs. I was going to go in on my way back but forgot.

I will wait until they start discounting at more like 30% off, though it won’t be the popular stuff.

I and the woman have only been in a toy shop once since our kids were born (7 and 5 very nearly 8 and 6 they are beginning to sound like old money). That was Hamleys last christmas. It was a bit of a shock and we left without buying anything. And never bought any toys online. Occasionally people give us toys but my view is that children should be able to just play naturally with whatever is available. There is always something even if its just a bit of paper.

Bloody hippy's, no wonder the world is going to pot. Indeed it would be a terrible world if everyone just lived simple lives rather than being ruled by consumerist "I'm better than the next man (or woman)" bullshit buy more shit or we're all fucked etc etc

She loves it, as she does playing with her Scalextric. This earth mother/father/parenting stuff is ok but there are alternatives.

I can't think of anything useful they sell No, Maplin's whole reason for existing has disappeared. Go back to the 1980s and they earned good money from selling electronic components to geeks building simple computers at home in the days when you either built your own computer or didn't have one. They have tried to diversify into selling toys but if even a toy retailer can't stay afloat selling toys then what chance has an electronics specialist got?

That at least would have kept some of their original customer base visiting for the odd part and at least giving them a chance to sell other things. They abandoned that market and became a sort of amalgam of Halffrauds, ToysRus, disco shop, Truck shop and doing none of them particularly well.
