I think they used cyanide, not propane.
"Zyklon B or Prussic acid was only used in two extermination camps, Auschwitz and Majdanek. ... Zyklon B killed by interfering with cellular respiration. The Prussic acid prevented cells in your lung from exchanging energy, so you asphyxiated in 5β20 minutes. It was an agonizing death."
Of course, it all happened a long time ago.
If the nasty Germans had won WW2 and conquered Britain, what would canal boating be like nowadays? I bet everyone would have a licence and everyone's boat would be neat and tidy. And everyone would be boring.

As interesting as that is, let's bring this back On topic. Has anyone bothered getting in touch with Crt about the rebranding? Have they replied to the question on Twitter?

The rebrand is based on feedback from market research focus groups, which included representatives from our customers, volunteers, staff, supporters and perhaps, most significantly, people who donβt currently use our waterways or know about the Trust.

So the most significant group of people are people who know nothing about it? Chessington World of Adventures anyone ?

I can see the logic behind the thinking i.e. get more people interested in the canals and hopefully sign them up as friends. Doubt it will work though - the world has moved on from that type of marketing.

I can see the idea of getting more people to "engage" with the canals but other than directly acquiring money from them I can't really see how it works in practise. Increase the number of boat owners maybe? That would be interesting but would require more slipways and moorings.
Maybe CRT could have little floating gift shops? Tied up with blue split film polypropylene rope obviously. Near locks.

People who don't have boats don't really give a fuck about the canals. They are just some place to chuck the bike you've stolen to go to the pub in, and the towpaths are a great retreat to take your dog to for a shit. Could you imagine this if a hole appeared in the M1, the Government not doing anything until they got enough donations from 'Friends of the Motorways' ?
As I said, what use is the British Army if they can't even fix a small hole in an embankment?
