They sure do seem to have a major public relations problem, no matter how you look at it.

All I got to see was the video with a bloke in a white hard hat - probably worried about a crow having a heart attack mid-flight and falling on him?
Do you have to be in Facebook to see anything else?
Why is it "going to cost millions"? It's just a bleedin' hole - get it filled in you morons! Preferably today.
On the other hand, as it will no doubt inconvenience many very wealthy people who have boats parked in Aqueduct Marina, please take your time.

What CRT should do is stick a couple of wide beams in the hole and cut the roofs off.
Then refill canal. Do it with maximum publicity to strike fear into widebeam owners.
That'll show 'em !

Make the canal into a cycle route ? It already is (well the towpath). Part of National Cycle route 5 Reading to Holyhead.

Jim appeared to be suggesting filling the whole lot with concrete . Maybe wide enough for a road ?

Hopefully CRT will already be in contact with the CTC/British Cycling/Sustrans trying to get them to highlight the issue with their members and possibly get some of them to make a donation to the repair bill. Relying on tight git boaters will always fail!

May I politely point out that there are a couple of new pages on Canalworld (General Boating section) regarding the Middlewich breach? Worth a look. But then, nearly everyone here is 'down South' and you still think there are dragons north of Audlem. This breach affects us for the time being... if it ain't fixed by August we'll have to cancel our £400/week mooring at Aqueduct Marina.

Why are you planning on paying £400 a week for a mooring, and then complaining about it?
Why not book in somewhere cheaper.
Stafford boat club is £8 per night for none members (£56 for a week).
There are marinas that only charge £10 per night.
Got to be worth a few phone calls.
