Ok - so we're planning to go over the Huddersfield in Early October and I was just on the website checking max boat heights... Having made a Heath Robinson measuring device and measuring the boat's hightest fixed point (ignoring the Ariel as that's easily un-doable) it transpires we are 1.90m above the water... the max for the tunnel according to the crt guide canalrivertrust.org.uk/media/original/30632-standedge-online-guidelines.pdf?v=c74c97is 1.88m Does anyone know if the chaps at the tunnel can provide containers of water or something to lower the bow a bit? - THIS was measured with the water tank full AND the poo tank about half full ... I know we can top the tank up easily enough before going through. LAST resort is going to be taking the angle grinder to the top of the brackets (I rounded the heads of the screws when I fitted them) and cut a couple of inches off... I've half a mind to do that anyway, as the little bit extra you get by tilting them, doesn't outweigh the annoyance of them banging on the roof in strong winds... 'should have fixed them down in the first place.

Eat pies? You'll have been through Wigan by then. Stock up. Or kick Andy in the balls again?

I don't imagine they'll be bothered to be honest, the lights they put on the roof are taller than that.

I have been through twice first time no problems second time I was to high!!! you can fill up before the tunnel each way and if you are light on fuel the bow will sit lower in the water. When I went through they towed you and damage was the norm, its now better I am told when you drive through. Enjoy the trip we did twice

As I said earlier, I really wouldn't worry about this. The height restriction is more about the boat getting wedged in the tunnel and this would only happen at the sides. Like all tunnels there is more clearance in the middle and there is no chance whatsoever of that bracket fouling on the roof. Take an angle grinder anyway for peace of mind, but just moving weight forward should bring the front down by 2cm- half a dozen bags of coal on the bow deck for example.
