Yes the river has been banging up around our way too we have come up about 18" to 24" in a very short space of time. I expect it to drop as quick as it rose, it's not often we get near to flooding levels

The river is in full flood in bath so we're going to have to walk the ten minutes walk from the top lock.
When we get there.

It's going to rain again heavily monday apparently. It's still going up here. I don't think I can ever recall the top end of the Trent - the Five Mile and up - rising quite as fast as it has in the last 12 or so hours. Looking at the EA recorder graphs for the river from around Stone/Stoke down to Muskham the build-up of sand and silt opposite the training wall at the top end of Barton Island is definitely now having a very significant effect on how quickly any fresh coming downriver is able to get away. The recorders between Great Haywood and Shardlow all go into the orange flood alert mode, when water levels are rising, before any others further up or downriver, and take much longer to drop out of the orange warning mode when levels are falling. I've drawn the EA's attention to this but they won't allocate any of the annual budget to dredging unless it's necessary to alleviate severe property flooding. They're going to try putting a bit of pressure on C&RT to get some out at Barton Island, but I don't rate their chances as very good, unless it's made-up enough for a lot of pleasure craft to get stuck there when the river gets down to it's usual Summer levels.

The river Hull at Beverly has been on the flood mark for the last 4 high tides, yesterday it was starting to drop a little but it has rained heavily and continuously since.

Well, we've just touched down at Littleport and the water is well up and flowing well, although it's not too bad on the navigation front, just needed a bit more throttle going upstream on the Ouse. Travelling downstream on the Little Ouse we didn't need much throttle at all, but again navigation not too bad, but we haven't had much in the way of wind which is always a big help.

to say we're pissed off with the weather is an understatement - tomorrow, we have our "maiden voyage" with our first punters...originally heading on and off the calder up to Cooper Bridge and back (just 2 nights)... plan b is now invoked. - Altofts and back... TWICE with more gin.
Hmmf!!!
Spring? - my arse!

Remember the guests are coming for the boating experience (which they'll truly get in so much as plans get shat on)
and to enjoy themselves.
They'll love it.
