Mooring at the mooring, of course.

Boats don't have hand brakes in fact they have no brakes at all just the option to reverse the rotational direction of the propeller usually by using a gearbox. Tying up = handbrake. Reverse is footbrake. Parking is manouvring into position. What do ypu call manouvring into position at your mooring ready to tie up ? There is a technical term for this as well as maneuvering. Its known as "Hoping nobody is watching"

I park my boat. Mooring is more like putting the handbrake on. Boats don't have hand brakes in fact they have no brakes at all just the option to reverse the rotational direction of the propeller usually by using a gearbox. What about an anchor?

That's an interesting point. I know some European commercials are fitted with a pair of large anchors at the front specifically to stop the boat in the event of mechanical problems like fouled propeller. Did this ever happen with english ditch barges ? Typo edit

Which is debateable as an anchor is a device for stopping a boat in emergency which could be considered a brake.

I am still interested to know if any English ditch barges did use anchors as emergency brakes. In a none confrontational factual type of way as it is the sort of detail I like to know about. Humber barges have two hawseholes at the front so there seems to be a good chance they did do this. Boats still don't have brakes.
