Would be interesting to see and understand the legal basis for them doing this. After all the free movement of people is a fundamental right under EU law. Hiding behind the smokescreen of 'its because of the security situation in France' sounds terribly lame to me.

On the other hand if no aid had been allowed from day one the residents would have moved on by now. Sometimes it's cruel to be kind.

When we came out of Birmingham early one morning last month, we were staggered by the number of homeless people sleeping under the canal bridges. Perhaps, if the French don't want it, the humanitarian aid could be diverted there?

From what I've read, the Calais refugees draw the line at eating supermarket own-brand food, perhaps that was the problem?
