I have had the dubious honour of working on two marine heads in the last 7 days.
mouse E27 Vanguard.
Retrofit a macerator in place ofย a Jabsco manual toilet. That was fairly easy. New butyl sanitation hose, swap the bowl over, job done.
The second was not so easy.
Freeman 22.
Sometime ago a big marina (who shall remain nameless) between Ely and Huntingdon.... Fitted at great expense a Johnson sea toilet for my friend. It had become almost impossible to operate.
No problem, I now had in stock a very good, recent and little used Jabsco manual pump that should swap straight over from mouse redundant toilet.
First thing I find is this:-
Naughty naughty, totally the wrong valve to use, high zinc content means they can be prone to failure.
Back to the throne
Guess again - the two are totally incompatible.
OK, no problem I'll fit the bowl from the Johnson to the Jabsco, job done..
Not so fast Tonto.
Because of the awful way it was plumbed up - with only around three inches of hose coming up through the heads plinth the hard stinky old sanitation hose pulled and twisted the plastic outlet making it leak.
You can see the original hole to the left behind the toilet outlet, no way it would seal without replacing the hose.
I shifted it to the left to give a more sympathetic bend and some spare hose so that the heads can be serviced without fighting against too short a length of hose.
Sorted!
On top of the incorrect valves the plinth had been screwed in place with these.
4 mild steel woodscrews must have been the difference between profit and loss on the job
And for Quaysider...
This came from inside this 'low odour' sanitation hose.
Grim stuff!
I may have a cheap source of the butyl stuff we have been using, watch this space!
