Looks like boaters are safe at declaring 0% tax on the fuel they buy, eh? Have any ever been successfully prosecuted for 'cheating' on the 60-40 split?

"Red diesel is only legal for off-road vehicles such as tractors, and has a much lower VAT rate". Well, there you go. My narrowboat is an off-road vehicle. I mean, has anyone ever seen it going down the road?

It wasn't so much the leprechaun piss that caught my eye but the failure to disclose evidence leading ultimately to the collapse of the trial.
Does the double jeopardy waiver apply in cases like this?

Does the double jeopardy waiver apply in cases like this? It is quite alarming how the administration of criminal justice is becoming ever more of a lottery. A recently published book - “The Secret Barrister” describes just how many cases fail or result in unjust convictions through incompetence by the CPS and/or inadequate availability of legal aid representation compounded by some unprofessional defence barristers. The book makes a strong case that government cuts in administration of justice have gone too far and, just as in the case Gazza highlights, are actually resulting in millions of pounds being wasted.

Does anyone know where it's officially/legally stated that boaters need to pay tax/VAT on fuel for their boat, assuming it IS being driven, and that the diesel isn't just for 'domestic heating', etc. ?
So far we've usually paid the 60-40 split, as we know tax money is needed for squandering on projects such as HS2 and lining Carillion managing directors' pockets.

EU demanded it be on boat fuel ..... UK Govt didn't want to, as not enough income to justify the cost of collecting .... hence the self declaration.

EU demanded it be on boat fuel ..... UK Govt didn't want to Well, as Theresa May says "Brexit Means Brexit" I guess she means "Fuck the EU and boaters don't need to declare tax for the diesel they buy." Thanks, Theresa! (ps - Chewy - will read your link this evening, thanks for it.)

Or she means "Brexit Means Whatever We End Up With". If we end up with being in the single market, then the red diesel rules will still apply, and you'll still have to declare propulsion/domestic split. ( Aye, right! )
