You mean Whilton or the new owner have bumped the price up from 9,000 to 15,000? I keep hearing "it's a sellers market" at the moment. 15,000 is a lot as it's only 23-feet - we paid 18,000 for 40-feets. Looks cute - apart from the toilet. I haven't been to Whilton Marina, but that's where our boat came from to the previous owner, and in fact he tried to sell it there for a while before giving up and bringing it back to his home. I remember reading that they do good breakfasts at Whilton Marina's cafe.

Dunno, Whilton or the new owner it's all a bit academic - my friend (the one who sold it at Oundle for <9k) loved and cherished it. I cant see £6k+ that has gone into it since she left the Nene! The toilet is a bit trick and would be a massive bonus for the London live aboard that doesn't want to worry about pump outs....

Not sure it has much to do with Whilton, just the state of the narrowboat market. I had a list of about 8 boats to view on Friday morning in the hope I'd exchange contratcs on the house later on Friday - no joy and likely to be 2 weeks before any joy (grr....). All the boats were at least 10k above what I would have expected them to sell for 18 months ago. Will be interested to see how many of the boats are under offer before I get to exchange contracts on the house.

I reckon you could easily earn £2,000-£3,000 a month buying boats up north, moving them down to London and selling them, with little more than a bit of T-Cut and polish on the way. You'd only need to do one a month.

Yeah - fill London up! You'd probably be able to put £10,000 on each boat if you describe them as a 'floating home' as opposed to 'metal coffin'.

£15k does seem a lot for a 28 year old (!!!) Springer water bug albeit a 23_ft inboard version. Not sure if its the case with the bigger ones but I believe the little outboard 20 footers were built with 3mm plate.
I find it awfully upsetting when I realise that 1990 was so long ago.
While skirting around the potential libel issues I have to say from personal experience that this brokerage leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Anything worth listening to musically is at least 20 years old. Cars were simpler and possibly better for it. The sun seemed to shine endlessly (apart from Easter '98) Salad days indeed.

For a £6k+ saving look here in Fenland, Fox Boats, Willy Watt/ Blackthorn Marina, Oundle Marina, Fish and Duck, Westview Marina, you will pay the boats worth rather than the inflated going rate. A week or so gets you back to civilisation at the cost of some food, diesel and time, after you've done it and you tell me it doesn't really costs >£6k to get off the Anglia region and I'm jacking my job in and shifting boats to Whilton as Stabby suggested! I hate to say it but as Foxy points out - bare in mind phil70 may be selling thunderboat.boards.net/thread/3408/living-aboard

Don't really care where the boat I buy is (within reason) as I'd like to explore as much as I can over 2 years before having to get a job. All still a pipe dream at the moment though.

In defence of Whilton I have been told that a good thing about them is they allow you to go and explore boats for yourself, and not be bothering you all the time following you around, so that you have the time and peace & quiet to make your own decisions.
