I can't really understand it but apparently some people object to HIAB type hydraulic cranes. I have heard of one instance where a mooring provider demanded the unit was removed and another where the owner draped an arctic type camouflage net over it to blend in with the boat's white paintwork.
Why?
I sometimes do object to fat sunbathers but why is a HIAB offensive ?
All very strange.

I would agree ...... I would love to have a HIAB on Sabina but my budget would only run to a couple of cheapo Chinese made mini cranes

Somebody on cwdf had ago at me for having a hiab on my boat because it wasn't historically correct. They shut up when I pointed out it was handy for fitting the new engine.

I would agree ...... I would love to have a HIAB on Sabina but my budget would only run to a couple of cheapo Chinese made mini cranes I did notice that But putting the cost and potential historic relevance issues aside it seems that people don't want to look at HIAB type cranes on boats. I wonder if it is something to do with commercial v residential boats. The most recent one is the Loyal Chancellor an ex RN training ship in Limehouse marina which I sometimes go past in my boats. There used to be a blatantly obvious olive green painted HIAB on there but now it has a wite camouflage cover over it. I really think the owner was asked to cover it. I really liked looking at it and thinking how cool it would be to be able to hoick the dinghy out "just like that" onto the deck.

I keep thinking about putting a bigger hiab on my boat, one with more reach.

I don't mind HIABs but if I owned a mooring I would boot anybody off who had Rosie and Jim dolls in the window.
