The IWA chairman Ivor Caplain has openly come out and declared the official IWA stance on CC'ers in London.
This excerpt is taken from his introduction in this years Canal Cavalcade brochure
"In London the number of people living afloat
is putting pressure on the waterways and
impacting on those who wish to enjoy them as visitors
or for recreation, health and wellbeing.
IWA is working closely with CRT and other
partners to help manage this for everyones benefit"
Just another reason that I would never support the IWA again nor any of their festivals

He's a twat Caplan. He struggles to integrate with other people. Lord only knows how he got the chair position. The provisional i wank alots seem to be struggling to find new membership, so I think their days are numbered. The last AGM struggled to get 20 people, and not one of them was under 70. Coffin dodgers.

I haven't read the whole article but from the tone of the excerpt I couldn't honestly say I would disagree with him. I feel sorry for people who are priced out of flats/houses and forced into boat dwelling, but London was pretty much rammed full of liveaboard boaters when I was last there to the point where mooring was difficult to say the least. The long term solution is of course not within the scope of any navigation authority.

I'm not remotely interested in the IWA or any other clubs or associations and will never be member of any of them myself but I think that whatever or whoever he is he has made a relevant point about the way that towpaths are being used.
1995 is a long time ago !

The trouble is stabby, they have no interest in boaters anymore unless your engine blows smoke rings and it can be displayed to the public as a lovely, pretty, quaint canal boat that the paying public want to see. They're not just concentrating on London but network wide, and in collusion with certain Hire boat companies.
I've only been once to the Slough canal festival even though its a mile from my mooring. They (the iwa) cleared a hundred yards of towpath of reeds and weeds so that they could have a learn to fish exhibition. Visiting boats had to moor in reeds and bushes and use a gang plank to get ashore. I was approached by one of the IWA bods near their tent and asked if id like to become a member and when I asked what they were intending to do about the depth and lack of moorings on the arm, he replied, "we are concentrating on making the footpaths easier for walkers"

The iwa are dangerous, they spend a lot of money lobbying members of parliment every year. Look at the new chairman of the all party waterways committee said when he was appointed. Also cart seem to pay a lot of attention to what the iwa say, look at the issue of charging widebeams extra, it's the iwa who have been spouting the anti widebeam stuff for awhile.

We are IWA members :/
We paid £38 in December for the year 2018. I like to think this buys tea and scones for the volunteers who do much dirty work. Also the IWA promotes the canals by having a photo competition, and selling pretty Christmas cards. If you don't like their attitudes/policies, they can be attacked from within. There's nothing to stop people phoning to them and having a moan, writing letters to them and having a moan, or slagging them off on discussion sites.
I like to think they do more help than harm. I may be wrong.

Sadly the IWA can't be attacked from within - some of those at the top of the local branches are as guilty as those at the top nationally for holding views detrimental to some boaters.
As such it would be like trying to shove an elephant uphill, Rolt didn't manage to get passed committee intransigence in the 50's.....
I will however give a thumbs up to Peterborough branch for their efforts on Project Hereward 👍🚢

There's nothing to stop someone from making a new organisation to challenge the IWA, so that those with different opinions to the Crusty Fossils can go over to that.

They wouldnt print my letter or respond in the magazine apart from the wrigglies the quicker they are gone the better!! I was moored up years ago good mooring near one of their shows, they asked me to move as they wanted to extend their moorings for the show, I asked a BW bod if I had to move, he said tell them to piss off which I did. I was badgered for days to move but Marcus my big German Shepherd sorted them out in the end. Cancel your membership its the best thing you can do

(snigger!) ps - I sent this to the Reading Chronicle last night as Post #4 suggested doing just that! www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/topic/96266-district-enforcement-mooring-fine-reading/
