I've bought a nice old Seagull outboard on eBay. Its the old Clutched Century with the cylindrical tank. Running. I haven't owned a clutched seagull before. I've had the smaller 40+ and 40- years ago but just wondering if there is anything to be aware of with these units. I'm going to stick it on the back of the Colvic as an auxiliary power unit. Will be mounted by bolting the mount bracket (clamp part is removable on seagulls) to a block of teak bolted to outside beside the rudder. That is rather than on an aux bracket. I also have an adjustable aux bracket if its the better way but i think the teak block will look a lot better when motor is removed for storage. It will be set straight ahead and steering by the boat rudder. I think it'll look "right" and much less likely to attract tealeaves than a more modern £££ outboard. This Look at this on eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263713182691

I have seen it yes. I know its polluting but the general idea is to have it stuck on the back and never used in anger. Just a run up now and then to check it. The main engine is very reliable but if I get a rope in the prop it would be handy to have a secondary unit to get to a better place to deal with it.
Coincidentally the fellow presenting the video had a Tohatsu 6 and Honda 2 stolen from his shed. A big part of the reason for me choosing the seagull is it is not a big theft risk compared to the modern 4 strokes.

A solution to stolen outboards, take off the lid and put a plastic cover on, motor worthless without lid. I keep meaning to do this, though my motor is padlocked with an anti theft thingy as well as bolted to transom beam. I must get my little atco impeller going, it needs a new magneto coil, afaik it's the same as a seagull.

ATCO boatimpeller is a nice toy !
That'd be an ideal one for annoying the Henley trad boat varnish brigade.

We used to mount it on the back of a grp Canadian canoe, great for shooting the rapids with that prop on a stick. I extended the exhaust so it vents under water, a bit quieter and less smelly.

Picked up the gull today. Nice old geyser selling it had a long natter with him about this and that which was pleasant.
The outboard is immaculate. Like new. Doesn't seem to have been left outside at all. I'll have to take care of it. Its the early Century with the cylindrical brass tank and its got the prop disengage clutch mechanism.
I'll not be using it much - strictly an emergency backup for a reliable main engine its just the thing to have on the back of the yot.
