I've locked the poll, as I think most people who would want to vote have voted. Whilst I'm not surprised by the result, it does seem that a lot of people have lost confidence in carts managements ability. I bet you’d see a different picture on CWF if anyone fancies starting a poll there. I think you would be surised, the last few times I've looked over there even some of the biggest apologists for cart, Alan Enfield, Alan Fincher etc have started voicing concerns.

I still didn't vote because the poll was far too generalised. If it had been "do you feel confident in CRT's ability to maintain the system to the same standard as it was in when they took over" I would have voted "no". The decisions to sell off their equipment, not to value the experience of the bankside staff and to think everything can be outsourced is so 1990s and turned out then to be a really bad idea for most businesses. Unfortunately CRT head office were lagging behind in their ideas, by about 10 years!
You may consider me a CRT "apologist" for their activities in trying to control the flood of people not particularly interested in boating but wanting cheap accommodation on the water, people who think rules are for everyone else except them, people who have no qualms about hogging public space and facilities. I am. But I am not a CRT "apologist" eg for the cockup at Minworth and the increase in unplanned stoppages.
However again it is too generalised to consider it nationwide. Here in the W Midlands we had a good chap in charge, interested in boater's views and he has done a lot to improve the nether reaches of the BCN. Of course we have just had the culvert failure on the W&E - culvert not under the control of CRT and I don't know if there were long standing signs of failure that were ignored, or not. And the aforementioned issue at Minworth which has dented my confidence. But still, they were in receive mode and not trying to pretend they hadn't cocked up. Which is something.
By contrast I had some dealings with the SW regional manager who was an arrogant pompous incompetent and disinterested arse.

Even then it doesn’t really show up the bits people are unhappy with and the bits they like. That’s where forums are useful I suppose.

Include mayalld there – he put in an FoI request re: the re-branding costs; was responded to with the usual evasion, and consequently demanded an internal review of their handling of his request. It was a good set of questions, the answers to which could have been illuminating. www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/costs_of_rebranding#incoming-1173343 Much of the time, it is the evasions that raise alarm bells, more than straight answers – however potentially embarrassing – could ever be. Anyone can make mistakes; cover-up exercises betray their managerial turpitude, and can damage the confidence even of their most loyal supporters.

I agree they are a good set of questions, if they had been answered they would have provided a more realistic view of the costs of the rebranding. I think it is being treated like an idiot that upsets people most, the way they have conducted the liscence review and then the rebranding this year along with selling the marinas and borrowing £150 million seems to have made most boaters stop and think. Its interesting to see the way the views about cart,of some of the most conservative on cwdf have changed over the last 5-6 years. Hopefully more people will wake up to the reality before it's too late.

Do any amount of boating, and it's almost impossible to ignore the lack of maintenance, I think that's the convincer.

Of course we all need to remember that today will be somebody's good old days. We're heading back to Wigan and have loved doing this canal again. The scenery is marvellous. But the condition of some of the locks is worrying, especially the huge voids behind the stonework on many of them. So much water leaking through the walls in numerous spots, that you worry a major collapse isn't far away. Was told this morning that the main reservoir feeding the summit pound is only 20% full, and restrictions are being considered. The canal side reservoir at Barrowford has had its level lowered whilst work is being undertaken, and water is being lost 'somewhere' on the flight too. (Information from locky at Barrowford) It's downhill for us now, so fingers crossed we'll make it back to Wigan and the midlands Rog

Ok
So the fucking fucker is fucking fucked.
What is the best solution to this 20:1 vote of no confidence?
Realistically what can actually be done?
Obviously make them all walk the stop plank would be a start. Except there are no stop planks.
Oh dear.
