I'm just going through Southall and the weed is really nasty. It's stopping boats.
Not mine as it has a decent engine/prop/steerer combination but it is bad. Blanket type weed.
Chucking back every couple of minutes trying nor to lose momentum. ..very very claggy. That plus all the rubbish and it's shallow is a displeasing combination.
Anyone else got weed problems?
Fortunately there is a beer shop beside Norwood top lock. With a fridge. Yum.
And Hanwell flight is always a joy so worth getting through the blanket of shite for.

Above Isleham lock most of the way to Judes Ferry was slow going, we have a prop protector rope cutter that does a good job of flinging it off.

Perkins P4, prm160 2:1 and a 23x?? Prop. Deals with it OK having said that this bit between top locks and 3 bridges is hard work !! I had wondered about a cutter as am going to have the prop off and tidied up as it is damaged from before I bought the boat. Probably worth putting one on if there is room Yesterday Limehouse-Regents park it was mainly duckweed but here its bottom growing weed which is much more annoying.

blanket weed is totally 'orrible ...... Shapfell has real trouble with it, sometimes loosing both engine way and steering simultaneously.
Only found one thing worse for her and that is the large lily leaves, they get sucked onto the cooling water inlet blocking it totally and instantly ...... causing impeller problems !!!

Duckweed is what does for us on the cooling system, had to abandon an assault on Ramsey due to bank to bank duckweed a few years ago - it was as far as the eye could see - I got bored of rodding the filter out every few minutes while crawling along at a snails pace to keep her cool. Ramsey is still there so no harm done

This boat has a skin tank which is helpful .
My barge has canal water heat exchanger cooling via a mud box. I put a Beta 90 in there in 2011 to replace a shagged Perkins M90. It really starts barking if there is duckweed about and the water supply is restricted. The bark is even more reliable for indicating overheating problems than a temperature gauge which I don't have as I specified the basic dash panel with less worry gauges. I did fit digital thermometers for coolant and exhaust and engine bay temperatures. I like using eyes and ears and nose to judge how and engine is feeling.

A friend is moored in London at the moment, and has been complaining about the extensive duckweed.
He sent me photos and Brownings Pool looks like lawn.
