"Must have been a hefty wallop - the Scania's nearside d arm has flipped forward. I thinks it's quite pertinent that the Bretts guy hasn't been arrested - normally in a fatal they do it at the speed of light."

thanks gazza. first time I only read the first page. with the driver involved in a fatality was not arrested seems to show they have viewed the footage and already come up with the cause. I have heard somewhere it is being put down to a sad accident.

A dashcam would be pretty pointless if an impact destroyed the video.
There are apps for phones (daily roads for example) which use the accelerometer to sense rapid braking and instantly email a section of video to you for later use in case phone is destroyed I imagine they would use something similar on buses or a black box type durable storage device.
Of course if the vehicle did not slow down due to driver health/sleep problems, mechanical failure or deliberate action then maybe there wouldn't be time to save the data.
It was a very hot day.

The thing is nobody knows about the people who did die. for all we know they could have been awful scum who everyone hated. Nobody will say this though.

My mate dave had a load of coaches one of his drivers who worked for stagecoach as well fell asleep at the wheel, he went straight over a big roundabout but totally written off people injured ect. Anyway he had cameras on it which picked up the driver error, the driver until then was blaming the bus but the pictures clearly showed him fast asleep. It doesnt take much to nod off sometimes does it?

I believe modern vehicles have computers on board which record driver input so if for example there was no braking occurring before impact that would put the bus driver at fault because they were either asleep or ready to go.
Not sure if you get skid marks on roads with modern abs systems.
