I've just had a go at trying to find the problem with a prm 120 d2. The girl lost reverse as she approached the lock landing. I checked the linkage and oil level, all was fine. It has forward drive, but wont engage reverse. Do these gearboxes have cones in them?

Yes, . . they're a totally 'mechanical' box with no internal hydraulics, and operate in a similar fashion to the smaller range of Hurth boxes. Did you try selecting ahead and astern with the control cable disconnected from the operating lever on the box ?

I reckon the reverse side of the cone has failed then. I've helped bowhaul it back from the lock landing, and they have called out rcr. The boats covered by them evidently.
