Pickwell not pickering. Its been awful weather today.23 degrees and only a little bit of sun but I forced myself to go out on the yot anyway. Saw this at Richmond about Arthur Nower ago. What a lovely boat ! Not my cup of tea but lovely anyway. Yes, pickwell, as it says in the sign

Go to specsavers, when you get back look again, there's a stick down solar just behind the roof box (bought off a neighbour for £20, no key, £10 for two keys, job sorted). Box looks better than random bags of wood etc on the roof.

Random pieces of wood and other general items are essential on the top of boats. It gives them karrikter.
Roof boxes (boats don't have roofs) are an abomination. Truly awful. Shocking bad form even.
I hate 'em.
I can judge a persons character and wellbeing from what is on the top of their boat.

The fenders need to be at hand. I bring them in when going along and only hang them when doing locks. Most people leave fenders out all the time. Ok for ugly boats but the Colvic is quite a nice boat to look at so I get them on the wheelhouse top so they don't clutter up the lines of the hull. Yes it is a bit untidy. Its a splitter so does need fenders. I do have too many fenders as I can't resist collecting them from the bushes along the river. Even if I already have more than enough fenders anyway. Its a bit of a problem specially on a small boat. As for character and wellbeing I have neither

I went for an eye test last week and as soon as I walked in, the bloke said "You need glasses". I said "How do you know, you haven't done the test yet?". So he said "Because this is the butchers, the optician is next door".

You can lay them out neatly..... I can't do neatly. Looking at that photo of yours by the great wall of Tod that roof box looks to be placed in the worst place possible as it blocks a vital area of forward view. You might even lose sight of a stand up paddle boarder and knock them in. With any luck. I would of put the box toward the stern of the vessel but I'm tall so can see over. Perhaps for vertically challenged individuals doing that would block visibility even more. I did wonder about making a tiny dinghy out of half of a roof box but not sure it is quite big enough to float an adult.
