Fake news a democratic crisis, MPs warn www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-44967650I’d like to change this BBC heading to “The truth, a democratic triumph, 99% of the polulation warn”....(even though I think FB is shit).

Hardly a democratic triumph if its achieved by cheating! 4% or whatever miniscule majority it was is hardly a democratic triumph anyway, and that could have been the results of cheating by unscrupulous slimy leavers. What would you do if the situation was the other way round?

I guess the meteoric rise of social media platforms has happened so fast that guidelines/rules and regulations are trailing behind. There will always be liars and scam artists... putting out fake news is just now so easy for them.. I suppose we all could become cynical disbelievers over everything written/reported/published unless fact based proof available but even then guess it could be manufactured.....what a grim destiny beckons.

My main concern is the destruction of free speech. I believe we should all be allowed to say what we think whether it turns out to be right or wrong. Someone usually lets us know when we get it wrong. Isn’t one of the main points of life to be able to learn from our mistakes. Are we really better off having a nanny state force the way we think?

Not at all, the report highlights the use of Fake news in social media to confuse and mislead the less well educated. If such behaviour increased votes in a referendum by just a few Percent, well what would or should we make of that?

There is a big difference between free speech where you believe what you saying and deliberate manipulative lies. Social media platforms pretend they are the same thing because screening and removing the lies is expensive and reduces profit.

Personally, I think anyone who believes control should be moved even further away from the man on the street are missing a trick. The BBC are blatantly anti-Brexit and always have been.

Shutting up the media is not the answer especially when it’s a medium where the general public can express their views openly.

. 14. Italy in September/October dumps the euro reinstates the Lire and then devalues it wiping away half its debt to the Eurozone, economic chaos erupts as euro banks start to go down then the EU collapses! It is probably more valid than most of your points on your list Jim and the best is we are already making plans to leave so we wont be affected that much

So we're to choose between so-called fake news, a term now attached to anything someone doesn't agree with, fake or not and on the other hand selected information from mainstream sources chosen to suit the political wants of their controllers.
One can't beleive anything. There is nothing out there that isn't outright lies, biased, or at the very least selective with it's statistically proveable statements or perfectly true articles chosen or written only to make some political point.
So, Jim, your carefully selected brexit lies image is just that. One set of lies chosen by you to support another set of lies you choose to believe. Worse than that, you insult leavers by insinuating that they not only believed these lies, but made their decision based on them. Seems to me that you're the one blinkered by propaganda, we in favour of leaving are the ones who see all sides spreading falsehoods and consequently made our decisions based on more basic political intuition.
