Intending to winter moor at Market Bosworth. Can any here recommend a boatyard to reblack our 58 footer? Hoping to get it booked in for spring 2019. On the Ashby would be good, but not sure if anyone on the Ashby does blacking. If I can’t find somewhere suitable, does anyone have a recommendation for blacking within a weeks cruising of Bosworth? Cheers, Ian.

Rose Narrowboats did mine but I've scraped most of it off already. It was £7.80 a foot for two coats of bitumen. Last time I passed Rugby Wharf they had a sign up offering a free hull survey with every blacking job. I didn't get to read the small print but I might go for that next time as I won't be able to get comprehensive insurance without a hull survey after 2019. I doubt it's a very thorough hull survey, probably just a bloke with a hammer bashing the hull here and there but if it satisfies the insurer then that's fine by me.

If I’d asked same question on the last forum I was on I’d have been told not to bother blacking, or make sure baseplates done as well, or don’t do the blacking until I’ve checked my battery charging regime etc etc etc!

Hands up if anyone can guess which site he he.
I noticed Armada were advertising £8.50 a foot for blacking as we went by. No idea of details, sorry.

Have booked in for slipway at Ashby canal centre. £8.50 per foot or £250 for just slipway, very helpful chap there was keen to suggest that it’s not a difficult job so may black it myself. I also spoke with Rose narrowboat a, cheaper at £7.80 per foot but will not allow me near the boat so can’t paint gunnels and tunnel bands etc whilst the boat is slipped. Rose quoted me £40 per tunnel band colour, so £80. To repaint gunnel sides, vertical surface only...£400!

If i had the time i would do it myself, jet wash and paint as many coats as your wallet, weather, time will allow.
Nice little slipway there aswell, walk up into the village at night for a few jars.

I probably will do myself. Bit concerned that I might not do a proper job as I’ve not done before. So many different opinions on how best to do it.
