Well four years ago I stuck my flexible solar panels to the roof, the paint was in good condition and I used a scotch pad to give the paint a prepared surface to stick the panels down. So I now need to remove the panels to install the much larger solar panels in preparation to going electric drive, I peeled a corner back and then with some effort two of us managed to get the first panel up, second one bit harder to remove due to the fact it removed all the paint under it from the roof! Anyway 9 panels removed and four large bare patches later clearly PU adhesive works well sometimes.................. Now its a case of a lot of sanding to achieve a smooth paintable surface, the joys of boat ownership or what?

For a serious glue look no further than Gorilla Glue, sticks like wots it to a blanket. PU great for wood, glued joint is often stronger than the wood. Phil

I usually use PU18 (cheap on eBay) for odd bodges here and there and some high class work as well. I did once attempt to pull apart two piece of wood stuck together and it turned out the bond was stronger than the wood.

For a time when we were nailing marginal cars together for just one more MOT I earned the nickname the Tiger Seal Kid A mate of mine who couldn't weld nailed together the front end of a rusty Escort van with some self tappers and plenty of Tiger Seal, it was a passable job but would have fell to bits like a clowns car in a good shunt!

Nope 'official acceptable name' I chose to keep the kids quiet up on wall is 'Hope Cottage'..They said I couldn't put Horror House up,I always planned to get a laminated sign with Horror House on to cover Hope Cottage but never got round to it....

I have been using PU18 for years - as others have said, it is ideal for bonding things quickly and reliably. On wooden boats, I use glass tape with epoxy for hull and important structural joints, and PU18 for everything else.
to avoid any confusion - PU18 is an adhesive-sealant that doesn't expand (or not noticeably, anyway) that is used much like gripfill or silicone, but it better than both, it sticks like sh*t to a blanket, and to your fingers, shirts, tools, etc. (white spirit used promptly saves the day), it is available in white, grey or black. I love it.
Most people are familiar with expanding PU adhesive which is a clear orange coloured resin that runs everywhere, and does not seem to bond particularly well to most materials. I hate it.

We bought Gorilla Glue for the first time a year ago, from the indoor market in Wigan, and it seems to work reasonably OK but you have to allow for the expansion. And also it failed where I had glued the wooden handle into the tiller arm - this Summer the handle turned round and round again (yes, I know there's a wedge in it but the wedge is always slipping); so I glued it again with Gorilla Glue and we'll wait with baited breath to see how long it lasts. Why they have a picture of Kris on the label is beyond me, though.
