And the worrying thing is that next year, the bloke from Poland will be back in Poland. beating up immigrants, no doubt, as they really don't like them in Poland. "Just before Christmas the EU said enough. It has given the Polish government three months to change policies or face fines, loss of voting rights in the EU and a cut-off of funds in the EU budgetary cycle staring in 2021. It is the most aggressive act against a member state in the EU’s history." Actually they don't mind them too much, as long as they look pretty much like them. www.google.fi/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jan/07/hungary-poland-had-enough-of-liberal-democracy-eu-must-act

"Since you’re here … ... we have a small favour to ask. Three years ago, we set out to make The Guardian sustainable by deepening our relationship with our readers. The revenues provided by our print newspaper had diminished. The same technologies that connected us with a global audience also shifted advertising revenues away from news publishers. We decided to"... pass round the begging bowl. "The Guardian is editorially independent" - yeah. "No one steers our opinion. This is important because it enables us to give a voice to the voiceless, challenge the powerful and hold them to account." - (is this right, Brussels?) "Challenged by media watchdog Media Lens about the thickness of the ‘Chinese Wall’ between advertising and editorial at the Guardian, the paper’s most radical columnist George Monbiot retorted “If you have an example of the Guardian spiking a story on behalf of its advertisers, please send me a link.” The Telegraph soon obliged, reporting how the headline of a 2014 Guardian article about Iraq had been altered to fit with the wishes of Apple, who had stipulated their advertising should not be placed next to negative news. “If editorial staff knew what was happening here they would be horrified”, the Telegraph quoted a “Guardian insider” as saying. Guardian columnist and former editor of the Times newspaper Simon Jenkins made a similar point in his response to the Oborne furore. Writing about the increasing influence of advertising on the layout and content of newspapers, he noted “Even the Guardian cannot be regarded as immune from such pressures”." The Guardian must be more truthful, you never quote it, preferring to hold up the daily mail as your go to place for opinions and trash to quote.
