On Sunday evening we decided to moor up in a fairly remote spot on the South Oxford. As I couldn't get the stern in all of the way, I jumped off onto the tow path. What I didn't see was a hole concealed totally by the grass. My right foot disappeared down it and I rolled my ankle right over. So that's the end of our boating plans for a week or two! So be careful stepping off your boat folks!

I found a similar hole at Wheaton Aston a few years back, stepped off the fore end and smack flat on my face.
Nothing to do with me stepping off the fore end of an unloaded Star class motor and not being as young as I remembered so my knees gave way. No sir nothing to do with that at all.

I did something similar or our way to Liverpool 2 years ago, took the boat through a swing bridge & went into the side to wait as Paul was letting another boat through.Stepped off...into a hole, fell flat on my back but kept hold of the boat.Paul did say he wondered where I'd gone!

With all this Health-&-Safety these days are CRT not liable for injuries caused as a direct result of inadequate/neglectful towpath maintenance? Can Bassy send medical bills to CRT? Plus monetary compensation for pain and inconvenience. WHO do the towpaths belong to, then? Joking aside, I hate the no win no fee culture we now have. There is no substitute for just being carefull. In the end, we as customers end up paying more for the cost any claims. It doesn't come out of the CEO's salary does it? Anyway, I need a pint of anti grump medicine. Apparently it's a good anesthetic too...

Bloody hell BP! You will be fit for nothing but the glue factory at this rate Prolonging the delay in visit our neck of the woods... It will happen sometime. It's made me realise how vulnerable you are if you have an accident out in the sticks with no mobile signal though. Might just try a short run and back from Northampton to Peterborough on the Nene in September now.

I took a good clout on the way out to the Great Ouse, it did make me stop and think the same as you. OK, I have Mrs G for company, but, also the dog and the dwarf in tow.
We will be heading back onto our river for the first weekend in September.
All being well I may catch sight of JohnV Phil and hopefully a gang from pyc out on the Ouse before heading for home. Loafer was meant to be heading for the badlands too?!
