I was sure naughtyfox was going to let his membership lapse last time we discussed the IWA? What happened Foxy? Is it some sort of special promotion for long time members? Maybe you get a 5 gallon drum of 15w40 oil or something like that.

I think to pounds to a euro would be a great value for the pound, no more european shit cars on our road everybody queuing up to buy our goods perfik, but thats only against the euro you understand, the pound would be strong against the dollar etc, so oil is cheap [given that the USA is now selling oil], and all our other imports from the rest of the world stay the same, I think we would live in the perfik country

Didn't someone point out that organising volunteers is actually more costly than paying them wages? I seem to remember someone had asked CRT about it and they refused to deny it. Or similar. I think the volunteer scheme is wrong personally. They should be employing young enthusiasts and paying them. Volunteers artificially effect the availability of paid jobs. This seems wrong to me. What about having some volunteers in management ? cart volunteers cost £32 an hour per volunteer. But that's not the iwa volunteers that foxy is on about he pays for. do we know what the £32 consists off and what a paid employee in the same position would cost?

Good question. I'm sure someone would do that actual work (help at locks during the daytime) for £15 an hour. I would do that but I know nothing about employment and the overheads. I guess the £15 an hour would not be the total cost to the employer.
I still fundamentally disagree with the principle of volunteer lock keepers.

I think that's what the foi requests where about, cart refused to answer them. It's all on the floater I think,if the floater is still running?

It's amazing how much they still cash in off past glories. I was sure naughtyfox was going to let his membership lapse last time we discussed the IWA? What happened Foxy? We're still newish boaters and it still feels right to bung a bit to the IWA who appear to be doing something good for the canals. I don't know much about the IWA but they appear not to be entirely evil. It's not as if, like some international 'charities', they send their members to Haiti to indulge in a spot of kiddy-fiddling, is it?

I think Furnessvale sums it up appropriately: "Of course WE haven't made any preparations. The WE in question is a remainer establishment and all the rest of us have seen is a carefully choreographed plan to remain in the EU. The rest of us are now seeing the final stages of that plan being enacted."
Much as I have admired Carlt's socialist stance in the past (similar to my own), now I can't help thinking he's the kind of person to tell us that Joseph Stalin was kind to his grandchildren, or that Adolf Hitler liked dogs.
