"If we all drop just ONE piece of litter a day" ONE is ONE and there are 7 days in a week. You did not say "if each one of us was to drop one piece of litter a day" I was correct. Pretend what I wrote was a cut and paste slagging off immigrants and women, you'll fully understand then. "If we ALL ..." "ALL" i.e. EVERYONE, the WHOLE POPULAS, the ENTIRE, the SUM TOTAL, the FULL HEAD COUNT of people in the UK or more simply and briefly ALL. Get it now. Rog

There is no direct indication of what is reasonable in the circumstances, or indeed by whom reasonableness will be judged. Rather it is a statement of fact ... 14 days or longer if reasonable in the circumstances. I do not seek permission in Andy's situation, but I do ring and report that I, due to reasonable circumstances, will be over staying for as short a period as necessary. I suppose it's semantics really, but seeking permission does project authority rather don't you think. Anyway Andy seems too well mannered not to let them know Rog

I wouldn't want you to leave, but I feel sorry for you that you seem to have no life outside of internet forums. Odd. We have just taken the boat up 38 locks into Birmingham, watched Strictly Live show. Then taken boat 38 locks back. Which is probably more boating than you do in a year. In 2019 I have been gliding several times, last flight to over 10,000’ (and looked down on Mr EasyJet going into Inverness). I also have a microprocessor / electronics project on the go and have recenty learnt C programming. Plus lots of other stuff. It is only because I am not from this planet that I also have time to occasionally post on here. Any chance you can find stuff for foxy to do? You can stay Rog

It's got do with the law and zero tolerance. In some places (increasing), if I get off the boat with the dog and forget the poo bags I've already committed an offence and if zero tolerance is applied I should pay the fine. Doesn't matter even if I pick up the shite with my hands I've still committed a crime. I'm lost. what offence are you comiting.by walking a dog without a poo bag. as long as you pick it surely no offence is committed. Some councils (a growing number) have decided to enact/pass a law (bylaw) that says you must have a reasonable means of picking up the shite with you at all times. I can see why they have done so - to make it easier to try to prosecute offenders. In reality the habitual offenders will just carry bags but not use them whilst the occasional forgetfulness person gets caught. Bad law in my opinion.

Whether the board is satisfied is entirely their decision based on the reported facts.
If not, they may pursue the matter.
No mention of permission.

The difference though is I do so for pleasure, whereas you do it because Geoff makes you. Hence I suspect your bitterness when cruising, and your sulking inside by the stove.

All dog owners are habitual offenders...They wonder round talking crap about the weather or holidays or their dogs doing stupid things or whatever, completely oblivious to what their shitting machine is actually doing! Dirty, lazy, ignorant dogowners should be fined if their dog craps or pisses anywhere in public...keep your shit to yourself!

Maybe the word "discretionary" would be a better but at the end of the day your application to remain in reasonable circumstances could be refused if it did not satisfy the board which means it is effectively a permission-based arrangement even if the actual word is not used.

Out of curiosity Nick, what’s the project? This is going to get technical!
Right well I have introduced Kobo e-readers running XCSoar (freeware gliding / moving map / tasking programme) to the club fleet. Cost about £30, and very readable in bright sunlight. Which is a bargain compared to commercial offerings which can be £500 or more. Then we have FLARM which is a collision avoidance system, with built in GPS and altitude sensor. And the FLARM has a data output in RS232 level NMEA format (bit like Garmins etc) which sends GPS position to the Kobos, and also a proprietary sentence that allows other gliders in the vicinity to be plotted on the moving map, with relative altitude, climb rate, red if collision risk etc. All of which is great except:
With only GPS position and velocity, but no heading or airspeed, the Kobo/XCSoar struggles to work out the wind, and only does so following prolonged circling (eg in a thermal). Without an accurate wind, it can't accurately predict arrival altitudes, nor direct speed to fly. Not a huge problem with thermal flights in Englandshire but a big deal in Scotland with high altitude wave flying (no circling) and very strong winds.
So my project is to get airspeed data into the Kobo, merged with the FLARM sentences. Once the Kobo/XCSoar knows true airspeed, it is really good at working out the wind with just a few heading changes. With proper total energy variometer data (as opposed to rate of change of GPS altitude) the vario and average built into XCSoar becomes useful.
So a PIC16F18326 microcontroller (about £1.30) programmed in C (Microchip's own IDE, which is free and very powerful), and 3 pressure sensors each of which has an I2C bus interface (so no difficult analogue electronics) and in order to work out true airspeed, an external temperature probe which I have chosen to be digital using the OneWire protocol. One pressure sensor is differential and gives full output with a pitot-static pressure equivalent to about 160kts. The other two are atmospheric pressure sensors (from 200 to 1200 hPa) with oversampling to give 24 bit resolution (which correlates to about 20cm altitude resolution). Also need a MAX3232 to convert to and from RS232 levels to 3.3v levels, and the usual bits and pieces.
PCB designed using DesignSpark which is RS's free PCB design software. Actual PCBs made in China and shipped to me within 6 days, for £29. Board size 76mm x 50mm, mostly surface mount.
Microprocessor builds a sentence (using a protocol called OpenVario) which contains vario, pitot pressure, static pressure and temperature data. It reads in the FLARM data stream, spitting it out again but waits for an end of sentence (carriage return line feed) and then inserts the OpenVario sentence, buffering any incoming FLARM data in the meantime. I'm sending the vario data at 4Hz and the rest at 1Hz. All works fine on the prototype, I got the boards back from China but ran out of time to fully solder the components on before we had to leave to come down to the boat. Looking forward to getting home to finish it.
Any questions?

I tend to agree with Patty that we're in danger of creating a bigger problem with bagged dog waste. I used to carry a small shovel to clear up dog waste, from areas where people walked, to areas where they didn't. Always had bags just in case, but tried not to use them. Dog waste is a natural biodegradable product (that no one wishes to walk in of course) but in a plastic bag it's a real pain. Rog

Just having a plastic bag in your pocket does not make any difference to "ignorant twats who don't bother to pick their shit up". They will continue to not pick their shit up despite having a little plastic bag in their pocket. The presence of the plastic bag makes no difference unless they are being watched by another human. Badly arranged regulation.
