From the owner's last post it appears that THEY found it without anyone on board. They also say the police haven't arrested anyone. So it's not clear how much everyone's efforts led to finding it. It does seem very poor that the owners appeared to have found it first without telling everyone for a few days. Here's another conspiracy theory. What if they had asked someone legitimately to take the boat away for signwriting while they were away, visited the boat to check on progress, then had dispute with signwriter? The signwriter then hides the boat due to non payment. Realises that everyone is looking for the boat, then moves it out if the dock to make out someine stole it. Bearing in mind they already have an ongoing claim with the builder due to below standard work and parts. It took ages to think that one up.

So... They have their boat back freshly painted n sign written at nil cost to them and the thieves have had a 3 week canal based holiday for nil cost (apart from a bit of labour and paint).
Sounds like a win - win situation to me!

The boat was new and presumably painted in the colours they wanted when delivered, so paying for a repaint and sign writing makes no sense b. If the sign writing, the name, was they wanted why obliterate it with grey primer as soon as it was recovered?

If decent paint was used I suspect the paint cost quite a bit and the labour would come in at over 5 grand for a normal repaint. Expensive holiday I would think

I must have missed that bit. Oh well, back to my conspiracy drawing board.

I was a bit miffed that they found it on Thursday and never put a quick post to say it had been found. It would have saved Junior a trek and a long wait by the boat. Also when the couple took the pics why not say its ok we found the boat instead of getting as they say aggressive. That paint job looks like it cost a few grand makes me wonder why anyone would do it on such a distinctive boat.I think there will be a back story here somewhere .

I found the fact that they got aggressive with the picture takers really strange, myself in that position,I would have been jumping for joy and offering my gratitude.

I was discussing it last night with a businessman who has a bit of form, and its the implied silence on account of Police Advice thats a bit strange also. Its the classic excuse in many ways to avoid any explanation.I appreciate people on here will say I am talking out my Arse and point out the hazards of Social Media etc. You are already on record yourself stating you were a Moderator on a Trucking Forum,I am sure you must have had instances of various thefts where accounts would be freely given whilst still preserving the integrity of any Police Inquiries.

Yes, there would be no legal problem with the narrowboat owners being slightly more forthcoming about the present situation, their current demeanour is coming across as, shall we say, not exactly what mine would be. Incidentally, when I was a TruckNet moderator, I pulled three posts in ten years, all because they were clearly libellous and could have got the forum owner in serious trouble. I never once moderated a post simply because I disagreed with the poster's point of view, I would have been instantly removed as a moderator had I done so. I guess that's the difference between a forum which is run professionally and CWDF.

It seems out of place to cast aspersions, but you're right that something does seem not quite right.

On the subject of chaining boats to pontoons.. One marina I know of have been known to chain boats to pontoons if the owner hasn't paid their mooring fees and are not responding to calls/letters. When I first saw it I did wonder if this was a good idea or even legal.
