I do remember that Steven King sold the rights for $5,000 and never cashed the cheque. It was a box office flop but became one of the highest rented movies ever. In the book, Red was an Irishman with red hair. In the film Andy DuFresne says "Why do they call you Red?" and Red (Morgan Freeman) says "I don't know. Perhaps it's because I'm Irish". This is a bit of an in-joke among the film makers.

Today's news, which is just about everyday life on the mooring and not intended to be a gripping read. I took the old inverter isolator switch apart, firstly to see what was inside it and secondly to see if it could be repaired to keep as a spare. This is in the "On" position and resistance should be 0.0 or thereabouts. On closer examination, the mechanical track that the key pin moves along to energise the circuit was worn out and/or the key surround had deformed with age/ heat, so into the bin that went. So anyway, I have wild mint growing out of the piling. It smells lovely when you brush against it. A few days ago I decided to take some cuttings and plant as much of it in pots around the mooring as I could. I've kept them in a plastic beaker which normally lives on the windowsill. Today I saw one of them had developed a root system so I planted it out. Another cutting is close behind so that will probably be potted next week. Other than that, just trying to get my head around going back to work. It's pissing down right now, if it's like this at 06:30 tomorrow while I'm stood out on the yard fastening some trailer curtains I'll be having my "WTF am I doing? moment I'm sure. Also met Ian and Ali today when they briefly stopped for a chat and to comment on how wonderful my hair looked.

When the film first came out in cinemas, I'd taken Jane to Meadowhall for a wander around , a meal, and then the cinema.
The cinema there has five screens, but there was nothing we wanted to see ... however Shawshank Redemption was one of the films.
I vaguely recalled I'd read a review in the Times, but whilst I remembered the review had been glowing in praise, I couldn't remember anything about the film.
We went in to watch, basically because Morgan Freeman was in it ... he doesn't really do bad films.
We both loved it of course, and have watched it again several times.
Never read the book ... perhaps I should.

Is that a real Aladdin lamp on the left or a wick type?
Don't have any now on account of big solar panels but did once quite enjoy the glow from the mantle of an Aladdin lamp. Quite pleasant.

It's a paraffin lamp ... I used to use it but stopped because Jane doesn't like the faint smell that lingers. The smell reminds me of childhood caravan holidays so I didn't mind it. I like subdued lighting ... I have the face for it Rog

Rog Yes the Aladdin lamps are paraffin as well. I guess that is a wick type. I dislike the smell too. apparently adding a bit of rose oil sorts it out but not sure if rose oil exists.

They use a mantle around the circular wick Much more light. And if you use lamp oil rathar than parafin no smell. I used to have quite a few aladdin and tilly lamps sadly now down to one.

We love audio books.
Have read many Stephen King books but not Shawshank or indeed Green Mile.
