Well we appear to have arrived at the aforementioned SLOW flight - only went up the first 2 and tied up for the day... 8 in the queue by the time it was our turn to go up. Everyone moaning about how shallow it is - and I had to bite my tongue cause it's no where near as shallow as most of the Rochdale or Huddersield ... or even the peak forest. Anyway - I've had a walk up to town (you were right it's too long a walk for ice-cream... as I've discovered to my peril with the coop 2 pizzas and a ben and jerrys for a fiver deal. the pound after the next 2 locks has a bit of space in but after that, it's chocabloc - ergo, tomorrow we'll go up 2 more locks and stay there until the punter arrives... it takes a little bit off the walk to the shops. Thanks Telemachus for the info on the Ashby - AND kind (ish) words about ginger poofs being the lesser of two evils... I Think! I wouldn't dream of attempting to go up and down the Ashby in two days, will be long days, if you have time you should do it, three days is easy enough. After the (Moira) cut was stanked off due to mining subsidence from Measham pit a couple of bridges lengths North of Snarestone Tunnel in the late 1960's, and loading for Dickinson's paper mills at Croxley was transferred to Gopsall Wharf -- a couple of bridges lengths South of Snarestone -- it was spot on 9 hours for a pair of empty boats from cut-end (Bedworth) to get up to the new winding hole (near the old waterworks) at the top end, wind round and get back to Gopsall Wharf ready for loading first thing the next morning. Has your boat got an engine, . . or do you bow-haul it everywhere ?

I have tried suggesting this.... Stop 'suggesting' and TELL them to do it ! Yes, because it always works out well when you issue CRT with orders, doesn't it Tony?

Thanks for the offer of backup Twerp (although I have no idea who you are) - So far, things are on an even keel at the moment on Ellis... I've surely ran OUT of bad luck now? (famous last words).
I've enjoyed today in this pound in the sunshine reading my new book and watching boats go by - WAY too fast most of them but it appears normal here... I tie up well enough so as to avoid being tossed around too much but will slacken ropes tonight in case the levels drop and we end up tipping over. I have half a mind to stop on the pub moorings on Wed night (if they'll let me) and have tea in there and then pull off when the punter arrives at lunchtime... we'll see how that pans out.

the pound after the next 2 locks has a bit of space in but after that, it's chocabloc - One of the reasons I never mind being back on my mooring at this time of year, everywhere anywhere near shops, facilities is rammed. First day at work finished, went as well as could be expected. I presume I'm working tomorrow but they haven't texted me yet. There's a driver on holiday next week so I'll definitely be covering for him. Jo has her Mod 1 motorcycle test tomorrow so sending best wishes to her, not just for her sake but so I can get my mitts on her Honda by the weekend. It is so variable at the moment. On our 5 day trip out, moored outside Tame Otter for lunch, plenty of space at Fradley. The lengthy Rugeley visitor moorings by Tesco virtually empty. Plenty of space at Gt Haywood despite the fudge boat overstaying on the 48 Hr moorings. And we even got to moor in the centre of Stone above Star lock, in fact at close of play there was still 1 space remaining. On the way back things seemed much busier for some reason, and mostly private not hire boats, though Fazeley outside the old CRT office was pretty quiet.

Good to see you back in the mad house @twerp ... takes real will power to stay. Got a message from our work asking if we'll go back this winter ... nice to feel wanted ... I think that's the only time I could claim to be popular We both start 1 October ... but no motor bikes will be purchased. Rog

I have tried suggesting this.... Stop 'suggesting' and TELL them to do it ! Having had a walk down to see the state of play...
Upper pound and lower pound both drained, bywashes no longer working, lock still filling up with water due to leaking gates and leaking temp dam. Not sure what their next plan is....

I'd be worried they just bring a jcb over to fill in the canal - I'm sure that would be their preferred option given the state of it from Leeds to Liverpool... Not to worry though, they have lots of wonderful volunteers rather than proper paid employees to keep you entertained and engage with the walkers and cyclists.

I think they have made a start - 10 bags of postcrete already under water in the lock!

It’s pretty quiet, relatively speaking. Boat going into Trinity marina for the long weekend coming. Got car stuff to play at. Then back out and may go towards the north for a few weeks. Don’t break our canal Mark!
