Retired at the half way moorings, the last 8 locks can wait until tomorrow, nackered... - the plus side is that there is a KFC a few hundred yards away! good place to stop then....

Random news from the farm.
Had a really good weekend, Sam came up on Friday, my brother and his new-ish partner came up on Saturday morning and we cruised down to the Waterside pub just after Hillmorton, had the carvery lunch then cruised back. This will possibly be the last time I move the boat this year.
On Sunday Sam and I went to the Battlefield Line and had a round trip on the railway. On the way we called in at Home Bargains and bought some more solar lighting and some planters for the wild mint cuttings I've been cultivating. I like mint, once it's planted you can just leave it alone and it gets on with it without any input, plus it smells nice.
Back to work tomorrow. The next two weeks will pay for the CBF125 although unfortunately Jo failed her Mod 1 test again this week and I won't take it over until she passes. Not a particular problem for me, I don't even have the CBT booked until 9th October and I might not even insure it until the policy on the Clockwork Banana is due in December so I can get a cheaper multi-bike policy but it's a shame for her, having to pay for another test and all.
Sort of hunkering down for the Winter now, even though it's still August the nights are drawing in...

We saw the ever lovely @twerp the flouncer who kindly took my old batteries away (thanks Dave) ... really fortunate as we'd finished painting, showered and were just about to head to Tesco with our granny trollies, so he only just caught us in.
Terrific to get rid of the five of them after over a month of living with the new ones, then a week of the old ones tripping us up.
We're at Ansty tonight heading back to Braunston for blacking, and to pick up our vinyl from my friend who's there.
Very autumnal sort of day today ... 20 degrees in the boat, so the fire's not getting lit yet ... but may not be long.

I put a nice fallen Alder branch through the fire yesterday. Burning wood to keep warm is one of my favourite things about living on a boat.
The River will go quiet now which is nice. It's good to have some boats around but can be a little wearing.
There is a large field of Maris Piper potatoes adjacent to the mooring field. Harvesting machine currently at work.
So yes autumn soon.

Feels like Autumn.. The gardener guy at Clyne told me he's had to get the leaf blower out 2 weeks ahead of schedule .. so that's it... bye bye summer. Hello autumn, changing colour time I do love the autumn leaves and the crisp chilly mornings and..... October 1st dogs allowed on all the beaches. Sadly I won't get to the dog party that the local cafe throws on the 1st every year.. Doggy ice cream for canines...or there was 2 years ago(last year cancelled due to Covid) and I think fizzy wine for humans. I won't get there as still prob in Brum but no matter.

A bit more gentle sun next week (forecast suggests) and first day of autumn is 22 September ... so I'll hope for the best 16 degrees in the boat this morning, so still not yet lit the fire ... just got dressed. At least it's dry ... the rain added to the coolness would have me reaching for the matches I'm sure. Rog

Yes but did you leave the boat chained up to the bank piling both ends with really big chains and sold secure locks?

I CAN hear you ! Cruised out to Hillmorton ... I'm sure we swam more smoothly without the bloomin' batteries dragging us down ... mind you, we've got nowhere to put our feet up now until we buy the Dunelm Mills chairs Just having a sit and coffee and then out to mask up the other cabin side ready for coach line painting. Well we are without guest again... and it's a relief - it was hard work and perhaps I wasn't in the best of moods tbh.
I quite enjoyed the Ahsby - perhaps a highlight being bumping into the Ian part of ianali for a quick catch up whilst having lunch outside a pub waiting to fill up with water.
When the punter left today, we chugged on to this junction place (I can't remember) but went in to the Greyhound for lunch - it appears they didn't get the memo about restrictions lifting and we STILL had to go outside to a shed (from sitting inside) to order) OR use the app (which wasn't a seamless experience)... ergo, quick lunch and one drink before retiring to the boat to continue with laundry...
NOW it looks like the Aux Alternator is giving up the ghost as the batteries went down with the drier on low (usually it keeps up with it) - I suppose 2400 hours from a 175amp alternator is acceptable but it only seems like 2 mins (it's nearly 2 years) since it last gave up the ghost and cost me 250 quid to have rewound...
I'll cobble together a lead to the engine one and limp to the end of the season and then shell out for a new one in the spring. hmmf! This boating lark is just one continual expenditure.
'looks like I MAY be in need of dogless 's launderette list after all.

Miserable cold damp day here, stove is lit.
Back to work today, didn't do a great deal, probably drove around 40 miles and spent the rest of the time sitting around surfing the net, which suits me fine. Have a bit more to do tomorrow, Rugby- Evesham- Bedford- Rugby. Not as exciting as a trip to Moscow or Istanbul, all I focus on is the money now. Get this week and next week out of the way and I've earned enough to buy the motorbike.
